CLINTON, N.Y. – Tufts University's Eleanor Helm scored with no time remaining at the end of the first sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the undefeated Jumbos to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4.
Season Update
- The 11th-ranked Continentals (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC) had won their previous four games.
- Nationally ranked No. 1 Tufts (10-0, 6-0) extended its win streak to 15 games dating back to the 2025 season.
How It Happened
- The Jumbos were awarded a penalty corner with three seconds left and a Hamilton foul in the shooting circle led to another corner with no time showing on the scoreboard clock. Corners are played to completion of the play in college field hockey, even if time has expired in the period. Helm scored on the second corner and Katarina Villa picked up the assist.
- Shaw Huston '28 scored the Continentals' goal with four seconds to go in the third quarter. Huston inserted the ball on a penalty corner and Morgan Clarke '28 smacked a shot from the left wing that was stopped by the Tufts goalkeeper. The rebound caromed off a player in front of the keeper and bounced over to Huston, who was positioned near the left post, and she poked the ball into the back of the cage. Hamilton recorded half of their four shots for the game on that play.
- Claire Casey put the Jumbos on top with her goal 7:14 into the first quarter. Casey's goal came after Clarke made a defensive save on a shot by Villa.
- Tufts had all four of the shots and all three of the penalty corners in the overtime period.
Notes
- Huston scored her second goal this season and her first since the season opener.
- Clarke leads the NESCAC with five defensive saves.
- Kelly Janssen '28 made seven stops for the Continentals.
- Hamilton went to overtime for the fourth straight game. The Continentals are 4-1 in contests that go to an extra period.
Next Game
Hamilton hosts No. 15 Amherst College (5-3, 2-3) for another conference contest at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Continentals will honor their nine seniors before the game.
