Season Update
- The Continentals (9-2, 5-2 NESCAC), who are fifth in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings and seventh in the Division III Top 25 coaches poll, were coming off a 2-1 overtime setback against undefeated Tufts University on Oct. 4.
- Nationally ranked No. 15 Amherst (6-4, 2-4) was a 3-0 winner over Western New England University on Oct. 7.
How It Happened
- The first half was quiet from an offensive perspective as the teams combined for just five shots and three penalty corners. The highlight was Janssen coming out to the top of the shooting circle to stop a breakaway chance by the Mammoths' Cate LaFreniere midway through the first quarter.
- The game's lone goal was scored on a penalty corner with 1:01 left in the third quarter. Eva Bell '29 smacked a shot from the edge of the shooting circle on the right wing that was blocked. Eleanor Cooper '28 gained control of the loose ball, turned and passed it across the front of the cage. Waruch, who had inserted the ball on the corner, was positioned at the left post and deposited a one-timer into the back of the cage.
- Amherst's best scoring chance came midway through the fourth quarter off a penalty corner. Isabelle Nahon '27 came up with a defensive save on a shot by Emily Huehn, but the Mammoths were awarded a penalty stroke with 7:26 remaining. Katie Kantrovitz was selected to take the shot and Janssen deflected it wide of the cage with her stick.
- Amherst pulled its goalkeeper for an 11th field player with 3:16 to go, but the Mammoths didn't generate a shot with the advantage.
