Second-half goals propel women’s soccer past St. Lawrence, 2-0

Nyarady ’28 scored her first career goal for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored twice in the second half and Olivia Connolly '27 recorded five saves as the Continentals extended their unbeaten streak to six with a 2-0 non-conference win over the St. Lawrence University Saints at Hamilton's Love Field on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (6-1-1 overall), which received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, has posted five wins and one draw in its last six matches.
  • The Saints (3-2-4) suffered their first loss since their season opener on Sept. 1.

How It Happened

  • Both sides recorded six shots in the first 45 minutes. Connolly was called into action in the third minute, stopping a shot by Sydney Keenan from the left side of the box, then Lila Sullivan '29 fired a shot toward the upper left corner of the St. Lawrence goal in the 16th minute that was caught by Reagan Murphy.
  • Aly Fernandes '30 nearly put the Continentals in front with 10 minutes remaining in the half, but her curling shot toward the top right corner was knocked away by a diving Murphy.
  • Hamilton controlled play in the final 45 minutes, and recorded each of the first eight shots taken in the second half.
  • Diana Baffor '29 drew a foul in the box in the 52nd minute and converted the penalty kick to put Hamilton in front, 1-0.
  • Murphy reacted quickly to save a hard shot from Isabel Harvey '28 following a Hamilton free kick with 32:27 remaining. Sullivan made a run into the left side of the box with just over 27 minutes remaining and poked a low shot toward the right corner, but Murphy dove to her left and made the save.
  • Keira Nyarady '28 doubled the lead in the 77th minute, hitting a left-footed shot into the right side of the goal from the center of the box following a corner kick taken Kate Giglio '28.
  • Connolly kept the Saints off the board with saves in the 82nd and 83rd minutes.
  • Hamilton earned a second penalty kick with 4:58 left, but the attempt went over the bar.

Notes

  • Connolly has not allowed a goal in six appearances and 415:31 minutes played. She has recorded four shutouts in four starts. Her five saves marked a season high.
  • Baffor recorded four shots and put away her first goal of the season.
  • Nyarady made her first appearance since the 2024 season and scored her first career goal.
  • Sullivan and Fernandes both provided three shots on goal for Hamilton.
  • Giglio tallied her fourth assist of the season.
  • Abby Douglass '27 made her 50th career appearance for the Continentals.
  • Zoe Rogan recorded a team-high four shots for the Saints.
  • Murphy finished with seven saves.

Next Match

Hamilton will host No. 6 Wesleyan for an 11 a.m. match at Love Field during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 3.
