Women's soccer knocks off No. 6 Wesleyan on goals by Cramer '28, Flood '27

Connolly '27 allowed her first goal in 500-plus minutes this season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Haley Cramer '28 and Sarah Flood '27 scored goals and the Continentals held on for a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (7-1-1, 4-1-1 NESCAC), who received votes in the Sept. 29 Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches, extended their win streak to three and have won all five of their home matches.
  • Nationally ranked No. 6 Wesleyan (7-3-0, 3-3) has given up five goals in its last two matches – both losses.

How It Happened

  • Cramer made it 1-0 in the 13th minute. Kate Giglio '28 took a corner kick and Cramer ran onto it towards the near post. She headed the ball inside the right post and high into the back of the net.
  • Hamilton held on to its one-goal lead for nearly the next 60 minutes. In the 72nd minute Diana Baffor '29 took a free kick from between the 18-yard box and the left sideline. The ball sailed over the goalkeeper to the waiting Flood and she headed it into the middle of the wide-open goal from point-blank range.
  • Taylor Hill spoiled the Continentals' upset bid on her fourth goal with just 23 seconds left.
  • Hamilton's Lila Sullivan '29 banged a shot off the crossbar in the 20th minute.

Notes

  • Olivia Connolly '27 made four of her six saves in the second half for the Continentals. Hill's goal was the first one Connolly allowed in 505-plus minutes this fall.
  • Cramer is second on the team with three goals and 10 points.
  • Flood scored for the first time since the first match of the season.
  • Giglio is tied for the NESCAC lead with five assists.
  • Baffor has two assists this season and three in her Hamilton career.
  • The Continentals took all six of their corner kicks in the first half.
  • The Cardinals dominated the second half with a 10-2 shot advantage.
  • Hamilton recorded its first home win against Wesleyan since 2017.
