CLINTON, N.Y. – The Tufts University Jumbos scored three goals in a 13-minute span during the second half and defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 3-0 in a NESCAC matchup at Hamilton's Love Field on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-2-1, 4-2-1 NESCAC), which received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, had its three-game win streak snapped and suffered its first home loss of the season.
- The nationally ranked No. 3 Jumbos (6-0-2, 4-0-2) extended their unbeaten streak to eight games and are 4-0 on the road this season.
How It Happened
- Hamilton controlled much of the first half and outshot Tufts 13-6. Lila Sullivan '29 put a shot on target in the ninth minute that was saved by Gigi Edwards.
- Isabel Harvey '28 had a header go wide right in the 11th minute, and Sullivan had a pair of shots blocked before Harvey forced another save from Edwards in the 28th minute.
- Hamilton earned four corner kicks in the final 15:29 of the opening half. A header by Sarah Flood '27 with 12 seconds remaining was saved by a diving Edwards, keeping the match scoreless at halftime.
- Tufts broke through 3:57 into the second half when Reese Birch cut back a pass for Maren Jones who scored from the edge of the six-yard box.
- Hamilton's Olivia Connolly '27 saved shots from Birch and Maile Lung in the 52nd and 56th minutes, respectively, but the Jumbos doubled their advantage with 31:52 left when Jones delivered a pass to Emily Nicholas who scored from the right side of the six-yard box.
- Waverly Sumner added Tufts' third goal just over three minutes later, making a run up the left wing before cutting in and lifting a shot into the right side netting.
- Sullivan recorded Hamilton's lone shot of the second half in the 68th minute.
Notes
- Connolly made five saves in the second half and finished with six stops.
- Sullivan led all players with a career-high five shots for the Continentals.
- Harvey recorded three shots, while Flood and Carly McMahon '27 each put a shot on goal.
- Tufts outshot Hamilton 17-14, but Hamilton held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- Connolly has recorded at least five saves in each of Hamilton's last three matches.
- Edwards made four saves to earn the shutout for Tufts.
- Birch, Jodyn Miller and Nicholas each recorded three shots for the Jumbos.
