NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Hamilton College Continentals outshot Connecticut College 17-4 and recorded their fourth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Camels at Connecticut College's Freeman Field on Friday, Sept. 25.
Season Update
- Hamilton (5-1-1, 3-1-1 NESCAC), which received votes in the latest IWSOC Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, has allowed one goal in its last four games.
- The Camels (3-3-1, 1-3-1) were coming off a 1-0 win against the United States Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
How It Happened
- The Continentals grabbed a 1-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game. Diana Baffor '29 received a pass in the right side of the attacking third and took a shot from well outside the box that struck the crossbar and dropped in front of goal. Lila Sullivan '29 was first to the rebound and deposited the ball into the right side of the net.
- Hamilton's Isabel Harvey '28 won possession in front of the Continentals' bench in the 17th minute and played a pass to the edge of the penalty area for Sullivan. Sullivan attempted a low shot that was saved by Connecticut College goalkeeper Maia Kafer.
- Harvey made a run into the right side of the box in the 23rd minute and had her shot deflected out of bounds. On the ensuing corner kick, Kate Giglio '28 sent a dangerous ball into the box that Kafer punched into the air before Sarah Flood '27 nearly headed it into the goal.
- Sullivan battled for possession following a punt from Kafer with less than four minutes remaining in the first half. With the goalkeeper off her line, Sullivan ran onto the loose ball and fired a shot from more than 30 yards out that bounced just in front of the six-yard box and skipped into the right corner of the net.
- With just over five minutes gone in the second half, Harvey carried the ball into the left side of the box, cut toward the middle and struck a right-footed shot from the edge of the six-yard box that was saved by Kafer.
- Connecticut College's Colette Iwakoshi took a shot from outside the box toward the bottom left corner with six minutes remaining, but Olivia Connolly '27 slid to her right to make the save.
Notes
- Sullivan is tied for first in the NESCAC and sixth in the nation with eight goals on the year. She has recorded at least two goals in three games.
- The Continentals held the advantage in shots on goal, 10-3. Hamilton has recorded at least 10 shots on goal three times this season.
- Sullivan tallied three shots on goal, while Harvey and Abby Douglass '27 provided two each.
- Aly Fernandes '30 tied her season high with three shots.
- Connolly registered three saves and collected her third clean sheet. She has not allowed a goal in 325:31 minutes played this season.
- Danica Zicha recorded a team-high two shots for the Camels.
- Kafer finished the game with eight saves.
Next Match
Hamilton will return home to host St. Lawrence (3-1-3 overall) in non-conference action at Love Field on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
