DELHI, N.Y. – Hamilton College defeated Vermont State University Castleton and Keuka College in three sets and the Continentals completed a perfect weekend at SUNY Delhi inside Floyd L. Maines Arena on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Season Update
- Hamilton (4-1 overall) kicked off the weekend by sweeping Delhi in three sets on Friday evening.
- Castleton (3-1) had opened its season with three wins before running into the Continentals.
- Keuka (3-5) defeated Delhi in three sets earlier Saturday.
Hamilton vs. Castleton (25-21, 25-19, 25-20)
How It Happened
- In the most competitive match of the weekend, Hamilton trailed 6-5 in the first set, but the Continentals responded with four straight points and led the rest of the way. Elodie McGeiver '27 had a solo block and a kill during the spurt.
- Hamilton ran off the first nine points and cruised in the second set. Ayzlinn Trefren '28 recorded a kill and two aces during the run.
- The Continentals never trailed in the third set, but the score was tied at 18-18. Hamilton all but clinched it by posting the next six points including three kills by Trefren. A kill by Mackenzie Sickinger '28 closed out the match.
Notes
- Trefren finished with 10 kills and 14 digs for the 11th double-double of her career. She notched the 500th dig of her career.
- Kathryn Fox '27 hammered 10 kills and had a .368 attack percentage.
- Grace Seaman '29 chipped in a season-high 10 kills.
- Zua Vang '29 led the defense with 19 digs, which is the most by any of the Continentals in a match this season.
- Grace Jansen '29 handed out 19 assists and Lucy Proud '29 added 18.
- Hamilton boasted 14 more kills than Castleton (46-32).
Hamilton vs. Keuka (25-7, 25-9, 25-18)
How It Happened
- The Continentals scored the first three points in the first set and jumped out to an 11-2 lead. Hamilton had nine kills and no attack errors in 16 total attempts.
- In the second set the Continentals registered the first two points and never trailed, eventually getting out to 6-2 and 10-3 advantages.
- Keuka took its only lead of the match at 2-1 in the third set. With the score tied at 4-4, Hamilton ran off five consecutive points and put the Wolves away. Trefren and Anna Bradley '30 had two kills apiece during the spurt.
Notes
- The Continentals finished with a .382 attack percentage (32-6-68).
- Trefren led Hamilton with eight kills and is hitting at a .354 clip in three matches this season.
- Proud and Jansen passed out 12 assists apiece. Proud served three aces and is tied for the team lead with nine this season.
- Mia Jessen '28 led the defense with 11 digs – the first time she reached double figures this season.
- Hamilton owned a 9-1 advantage in service aces.
