MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University's Siena Steines posted a dozen kills and the Cardinals defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in three sets in both teams NESCAC opener inside Wesleyan's Silloway Gymnasium on Friday night, Sept. 18.
Season Update
- Hamilton (4-2, 0-1 NESCAC) came into the evening with a three-match win streak.
- The 10th-ranked Cardinals (7-0, 1-0) have dropped just two sets in seven matches.
How It Happened (25-20, 25-22, 25-15)
- The Continentals led 6-3 in the first set and the score was still tied at 9-9 before Wesleyan scored 11 of the next 14 points for a 20-12 advantage.
- The score was tied three times in the second set including at 14-14. The Cardinals ran off the next four points and led the rest of the way. Hamilton pulled within 23-22, but a bad set by the Continentals and a kill by Wesleyan's Mila Chan ended the set.
- Hamilton held seven one-point leads early in the third set. With the score tied at 10-10, the Cardinals took the lead for good with a 5-1 spurt. Wesleyan clinched the set and the match with seven straight points after the Continentals had closed to within 18-15.
Notes
- The Cardinals recorded a .291 attack percentage (43-13-103) for the match.
- Ayzlinn Trefren '28 led Hamilton with a match-high 14 points and served two aces. Trefren, who is hitting .323 in four matches, registered her 300th career kill.
- Elodie McGeiver '27 chipped in a season-high eight kills.
- Lucy Proud '29 topped the Continentals in assists with 16 and leads the team with 87 this fall.
- Caitlin Allen '27 led the defense at the net with three blocks.
- Mia Jessen '28 came up with 10 digs – her second straight match in double figures. Jessen collected her 400th career dig.

Hamilton plays another conference match at Amherst College (4-3, 0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.
