CLINTON, N.Y. – Williams College's Franny Donohue recorded her second six-goal game against a NESCAC team this season in the Ephs' 11-9 victory over the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Wednesday evening, April 8.
Season Update
- The Continentals (4-7, 2-5 NESCAC) dropped their fourth game in a row. Three of those opponents were nationally ranked.
- The 19th-ranked Ephs (9-3, 5-2) are tied for fourth place in the NESCAC standings with Tufts University.
How It Happened
- Williams moved in front for good with a four-goal run that spanned the third and fourth quarters. Neither team led by more than two goals until midway through the fourth.
- The Ephs opened the scoring 1:23 into the contest.
- Natalie Mascitti '29 tied things up 43 seconds later. Mascitti set up from outside the fan and drove it the whole way herself, beating one defender and the goalie on a strong overhead shot.
- Julia Lee '27 gave Hamilton its first lead with 10:26 left in the first quarter. Lee baited two defenders in and beat the goalie on a cross-body shot from the right side. Williams tied the score 49 seconds later.
- Maddigan Leifer '26 gave Hamilton the lead back with 7:17 remaining. Leifer cut the ride side, rounded the fan and received a pass. She took the lane through the middle and beat the goalie on a bounce shot.
- Grace MacLean '29 added to the Continentals' lead with 4:36 to go in the first. MacLean cut the left post from beside the net and beat the goalie on the right post. With 1:55 left, Williams cut its deficit to 4-3.
- Leifer opened the second quarter scoring with 10:56 remaining. She circled the arc with speed and beat the goalie on another bounce shot. Williams responded 38 seconds later on a goal by Donohue that made it 5-4.
- Mascitti answered with her second of the game 40 seconds later. She cut through the middle, weaved through four defenders and beat the goalie on the left side. Donohue scored the next two and tied it at 6-6 early in the third quarter.
- Leifer's third goal gave the Continentals their last lead with 10:19 to go in the third. She switched hands at the top and finished with a low lefty shot on the move. Williams scored the next four goals for a 10-7 advantage.
- Leifer scored with 6:23 left in the fourth on a Continentals player-up advantage. She capitalized on a free-position opportunity on a high-low shot left side. Donohue's sixth extended the Ephs' lead back to three at 11-8. She has 41 goals on the season.
- MacLean accounted for the final score with 3:14 remaining on a Lauren Garringer '29 assist as MacLean rolled the crease and tucked it over the goalie.
Notes
- Eliza Schwarz '27 recorded a career-high 15 saves. Schwarz leads the NESCAC in saves per game and is third with a .561 save percentage.
- Leifer's performance moves her to a team-leading 21 goals on the season. She tied career highs with the four goals and five points. Her point streak moved to 16 games dating back to last season.
- MacLean does not trail far behind Leifer with her 17th and 18th goals of the season.
- Mascitti recorded her second multi-goal game of 2026.
- Lee notched her 13th goal this season and the 64th of her career.
- Avery Trach '27 remained strong on the draw, pulling away a career-high six and has 10 in the last two games.
- Claire Neumann '28 and Grace Martucci '28 caused three turnovers apiece. Martucci is ninth in the conference in caused turnovers per game.
- Reece Willison chipped in three goals and Sydney Puntus had three assists for Williams. Paige Nelson scooped up four ground balls, Cailin Morrissey caused three turnovers, Juliet Kilborn won seven draws and Charlotte Cote stopped 11 shots. The Ephs' ride forced six failed clears.
Next Game
Hamilton hosts Trinity College (8-4, 4-3) for another NESCAC contest on Saturday, April 11 at noon. The Continentals will honor their five seniors after the game on Steuben Field.
