CLINTON, N.Y. – Trinity College's Grace Denious scored three goals and won five draw controls in the Bantams' 12-8 NESCAC victory against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon, April 11.
Season Update
- The Continentals (4-8, 2-6 NESCAC) dropped their fifth straight game, but four of those were against ranked opponents.
- Nationally ranked No. 17 Trinity (9-4, 5-3) won for the fifth time in its last six contests.
How It Happened
- Alex Lesko put the Bantams in the lead for good at 6-5 on a feed from Kelsey Restivo with 9:35 left in the third quarter. A free-position goal by Ivy Armentrout gave Trinity a two-goal advantage with 5:44 remaining in the quarter.
- Lila Snow '29 pulled Hamilton within one at 7-6 with 4:03 to go in the third, but Kaeley Zito restored the Bantams' two-goal cushion just 29 seconds later.
- A free-position goal by Denious 36 seconds later marked the first time a team led by more than two goals.
- The Continentals' Grace MacLean '29 made it 9-7 on her goal in the final minute of the quarter. Trinity countered with three straight goals in a span of three minutes early in the fourth quarter and put some distance between itself and Hamilton.
- The Continentals led twice – at 1-0 and 4-3 – and Maddigan Leifer '26 was responsible for both. Leifer scored 2:54 into the first quarter and the teams were tied at 2-2 after the opening 15 minutes.
- The Bantams scored the first goal of the second quarter, but Leifer found MacLean for a player-up goal with 8:06 left in the quarter, and Leifer put Hamilton back in front 39 seconds later. Trinity notched the next two goals and led 5-4 at the half.
- MacLean and Leifer hooked up again for a goal that drew the Continentals even 2:09 into the third quarter. The Bantams tightened up their defense the rest of the way.
Notes
- Hamilton honored Leifer, Kat Showalter '26, Anna Gum '26, Sydney Klepper '26 and Maizley Tone '26 during a senior recognition ceremony after the game.
- Leifer finished with three goals and two assists and tied her career high of five points for the second straight game. She leads the team with 24 goals and 31 points.
- MacLean tied a season best with three goals and has eight in the last three games.
- Natalie Mascitti '29 picked up two assists and leads the team with 14. Mascitti added three ground balls.
- Snow scored her first collegiate goal and recorded her first point.
- Sophia Wright '28 scored her 16th goal and has at least one in 11 of 12 games played this season.
- Avery Trach '27 won a career-high seven draws and scooped up three ground balls. Trach has 17 draw controls in the last three contests.
- Grace Martucci '28 caused three turnovers and is eighth in the NESCAC in caused turnovers per game.
- Eliza Schwarz '27 made 10 saves. Schwarz has 10 or more stops in each of the last five games.
- Restivo led the Trinity offense with four points on two goals and two helpers. Sam Hark caused four turnovers and Caitlin Hicks and Emily Ambrozy grabbed four ground balls apiece.
- The Bantams held a 32-16 shot advantage and scored on all four of their free-position shots.
