Women's lacrosse drops midweek NESCAC game at undefeated Middlebury

Continentals led 2-1 late in the first quarter but scored one goal in the last 48 minutes

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College's Sophia Lee scored five goals and added an assist in the Panthers' 17-3 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Middlebury's Peter Kohn Field on Wednesday afternoon, April 15.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-9, 2-7 NESCAC) dropped its sixth straight with all but one coming against a ranked opponent.
  • The top-ranked Panthers (13-0, 8-0) extended their win streak to 18 games dating back to the 2025 season.
 

How It Happened

  • The Continentals got off to a great start with Julia Lee '27 scoring the first goal of the day 2:39 into the first quarter. Middlebury didn't get on the board until there was 4:22 left in the first.
  • Sophia Wright '28 put Hamilton back in front 45 seconds later on a free-position goal. The Panthers took the lead for good on two player-up goals late in the quarter after one of the Continentals received a non-releasable yellow card (two-minute penalty) with 2:41 remaining.
  • Hamilton scored one goal over the final 48 minutes. Middlebury led 3-2 after one quarter, 8-2 at the half and 14-3 with 15 minutes to go. The running clock went into effect late in the third quarter when the Panthers grabbed a 10-goal cushion at 13-3.
 

Notes

  • Julia Lee has 14 goals this year and 65 for her collegiate career.
  • Wright notched her 17th goal and is second on the team with 29 points.
  • Grace MacLean '29 recorded her 22nd goal, which puts her second on the team.
  • Maddigan Leifer '26 had an assist on MacLean's goal. Leifer leads the Continentals with 32 points.
  • Eliza Schwarz '27 made 10 saves in 45 minutes. Clara Paolucci '28 relieved Schwarz at the start of the fourth quarter and stopped two more shots.
  • Grace Martucci '28 tied a season high with three ground balls.
  • Natalie Mascitti '29 and Elizabeth Rudge '27 caused two turnovers apiece.
  • Middlebury's Parker Hanson added four points on two goals and two assists. Lucy Bishop won seven draws as the Panthers finished with a 16-6 advantage in draw controls. Middlebury outshot Hamilton 28-6 after the first quarter.
 

Next Game

The Continentals stay on the road at Tufts University (11-2, 6-2) for another NESCAC contest on Saturday, April 18 at noon.
