MEDFORD, Mass. –- Tufts University went on a 10-1 run over the final 23 minutes and the Jumbos pulled away for a 15-6 NESCAC victory against the Hamilton College Continentals at Tufts' Bello Field on Saturday afternoon, April 18.
Season Update
- Hamilton (4-10, 2-8 NESCAC) dropped its seventh in a row with six of those coming against ranked opponents.
- Nationally ranked No. 2 Tufts (12-2, 7-2) has won its last five games and is 7-1 at home.
How It Happened
- The Continentals got off to a great start with two quick goals by Maddigan Leifer '26. A long-range shot by Leifer snuck past the goalkeeper for the second goal and Hamilton took a 2-0 lead 3:40 into the first quarter.
- Tufts responded with a 3-0 run. Eleanor Helm picked up two assists and Schulyer Lloyd capped the run with a close-range goal that put the Jumbos up 3-2 with 9:24 left in the second quarter.
- Hamilton did not go away, tying the score three times. Lauren Garringer '29 drove past the defense and found the top corner of the net for a player-up goal that pulled the Continentals into a 5-5 deadlock with 11:31 remaining in the third quarter.
- Tufts dominated the rest of the way as the Jumbos scored the last four goals of the third. After Julia Lee '27 temporarily stopped the momentum with a goal for the Continentals 3:20 into the fourth quarter, Tufts ran off six in a row in the last 10 minutes. Helm and Lloyd combined for seven goals in the second half.
Notes
- Leifer led the Continentals' offense with three goals. She leads the team with 27 goals and 35 points.
- Hamilton's Eliza Schwarz '27 made a career-high 16 saves.
- Sophia Wright '28 scored her 18th goal and has at least one in 13 of 14 games this spring.
- Garringer chipped in her ninth goal of 2026.
- Lee scored her fourth free-position goal and her 15th overall this season.
- Avery Trach '27 topped the Continentals with a career-high six ground balls and won four draws. Trach has 23 draw controls in the last five games.
- Helm finished with five goals and three assists and Lloyd added four goals. Allie Zorn recorded two goals, an assist and four ground balls. Elsa Schutt won nine draws and scored a goal. Devon Chipman stopped four shots.
- The Jumbos outshot the Continentals 45-13 and held a 16-7 advantage on the draw.
- Hamilton thwarted seven of Tufts' nine free-position shots.
