WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Hamilton College's
Carson Kraus '28 scored with 20.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter and capped a furious rally by the Continentals in their 10-9 NESCAC win against the Williams College Ephs at Williams' Farley-Lamb Field on Wednesday, April 8.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-5, 4-4 NESCAC), which received votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Top 20 coaches poll on April 6, was coming off a 17-13 loss against Bates College on April 4.
- The Ephs (5-6, 2-5) dropped their third straight game. Williams also received votes in Monday's Division III poll.
How It Happened
- The Continentals called a timeout with 1:07 remaining and Ryan Olivo '28 ended up with the ball shortly after play resumed. Olivo kept possession around midfield for about 35 seconds and then drove hard down the right side of the attacking zone. He passed across the zone to a wide-open Kraus on the left wing and Kraus immediately released a rising shot from about 20 feet that squeezed between the goalie and the left post.
- Andrew Higgins '28 won the ensuing faceoff, Kieran Hughes '28 scooped up a ground ball, and Hamilton ran out the final 15 seconds for the huge, come-from-behind victory.
- The Ephs led 9-4 after Ryan Johnson scored with 13:11 to go in the fourth. The Continentals' six-goal, game-ending run started with 11:47 left on Kraus' other goal. He took the ball from behind the goal around the left side, spun to the inside and scored on a shot from the edge of the crease.
- Thomas Healy '26 made it 9-6 with 9:40 remaining. Healy received the ball on the right wing and started to drive towards the net, but instead spun to his left and scored on an over-the-top shot inside the right post from 13 yards out.
- Hamilton pulled within two goals on a bizarre sequence that started with Ephs goalie Charlie Medd taking the ball the length of the field and putting a shot on goal. Jack Williams '28 made the save and sent a perfect outlet pass to Evan deBerjeois '27 near midfield. He sprinted all alone through the midfield, came down the right side of the attacking zone, and scored from about 10 yards away with 7:47 to go.
- The Continentals cut their deficit to 9-8 on a goal scored in transition with 5:06 left. John McKinnon '27 took a pass from Kraus and stepped into a shot from 10 yards out.
- Healy drew Hamilton even with 3:09 remaining. He picked up a loose ball near the sideline on the right side of the attacking zone, drove to the middle and scored on a shot from 13 yards away.
- The Continentals were able to rally thanks to the efforts of their goalie Williams, who stopped seven shots in the fourth quarter alone.
- Williams led 3-0 after the first quarter, 5-2 at the half and 8-4 with 15 minutes to go. The Ephs scored one goal in the last 18 minutes.
