HARTFORD, Conn. – Hamilton College exploded for nine goals in the third quarter and the Continentals posted an 18-13 come-from-behind win against the Trinity College Bantams in NESCAC action on Trinity's Jessee/Miller Field at Tansill Muldoon Stadium on Saturday afternoon, April 11.
Season Update
- Hamilton (8-5, 5-4 NESCAC) won for the third time in its last four games. The Continentals are receiving votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Top 20 coaches poll. Hamilton is tied for fifth place in the conference standings with one game remaining.
- The Bantams (5-8, 1-7), who are also receiving votes, dropped their fifth straight game.
How It Happened
- It was a game filled with big momentum swings. Trinity scored 35 seconds into the first quarter but the Continentals responded with four straight goals and led 4-1 after the opening 15 minutes. The Bantams countered with seven in a row and enjoyed their largest lead of four goals at 8-4 with 1:16 left in the second quarter.
- Hamilton got a boost 12 seconds before halftime on a goal by Finn Vaccaro '29. Vaccaro's goal turned out to be the start of a massive 12-2 run that covered the entire third quarter and the early part of the fourth.
- After Trinity's Miles Harvey tied the score at 10-10 with 10:22 remaining in the third, the Continentals ran off the next six goals and took control of the contest.
- Carson Kraus '28 gave Hamilton the lead for good with 5:46 to go in the quarter, and Jesse Delinsky '26 made it 12-10 just 51 seconds later. Delinsky passed to Kraus for a three-goal advantage with 3:42 left, and Maddux Little '27 scored for a 14-10 lead with 2:08 remaining.
- Thomas Healy '26 provided a five-goal cushion 2:09 into the fourth quarter. Healy picked up a ground ball on the ensuing faceoff win by Andrew Higgins '28, passed to Kraus and he made it 16-10 with 12:35 to go. Kraus put the exclamation mark on the win by scoring the Continentals' 18th goal in the final minute.
Notes
- Hamilton dominated the stat sheet in the third quarter with huge advantages in shots (18-6), ground balls (15-2) and faceoff wins (10-1).
- Kraus matched his career high with seven goals – a mark he first reached just one week prior. He's fifth in the NESCAC with 32 goals.
- Healy tied a career best with eight points on three goals and a career-high five assists, and scooped up a season-best five ground balls.
- Delinsky matched a season high with five points on two goals and three assists.
- Little notched three goals for the third time this season and has 18.
- Ryan Olivo '28 scored twice for his first multi-goal game since March 21.
- Vaccaro chipped in a goal and an assist and leads the team with 15 helpers.
- Higgins won 16-of-26 faceoffs, collected six ground balls and posted his second career assist. He's fourth in the conference with 64 ground balls.
- Riley Chai-Onn '27 tied a career high with four caused turnovers and leads the NESCAC with 26.
- Jack Williams '28 made 14 saves. Williams is third in the conference with a .556 save percentage and third with 12.15 saves per game.
- Billy Gerne paced the Bantams' offense with four goals and an assist. Will Lavallee won 13-of-25 faceoffs and grabbed eight ground balls.
- The Continentals won at Trinity for the first time since 2014.
