CLINTON, N.Y.– Bates College's Riley McCure scored five goals and added three assists in the Bobcats' 17-13 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon, April 4.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-5, 3-4 NESCAC) had won six of its previous seven games.
- Nationally ranked No. 15 Bates (8-3, 4-3) won its first road game since Feb. 28.
How It Happened
- Bates jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 12 minutes with McClure and Henry McCann scoring two goals apiece during the run. The Bobcats capped the run with Rye Kushner slotting a pass to McClure in front and he deposited the ball into the back of the net.
- The Continentals grabbed the momentum with two goals five seconds apart in the final minute of the first quarter. Carson Kraus '28 notched the first and Reece Hickey '26 won the ensuing faceoff and scored a brilliant unassisted goal that made the score 5-2.
- Bates restored its five-goal advantage in the opening three minutes of the second quarter, but three goals by Kraus led the Continentals on a 6-1 run. Hamilton pulled within 8-7 at the half and drew even 90 seconds into the third quarter on a goal by Frank Coyle '26.
- Kraus tied the score at 9-9 with 11:47 left in the third and Wyatt Estepp '27 scored on a shot that found the top corner that made it 10-10 with 9:30 remaining.
- Bates began to pull away following Estepp's goal, closing out the quarter with a 4-1 run for a 14-11 lead thanks to three points by McClure.
- With 4:01 to go in the fourth quarter, Xander Frey received a pass from McCann right in front of the net and fired it home for a 17-12 lead. It was the Bobcats' first five-goal cushion since early in the second quarter.
Notes
- Kraus, who leads the team with 23 goals and 32 points, smashed his previous career game-highs for goals and points with seven tallies. His seven goals are also tied for the most by a NESCAC player in a game this spring.
- Jesse Delinsky '26 passed out a collegiate-high four assists for the Continentals.
- Estepp's two goals represented his first multi-goal contest this spring.
- Coyle and Ryan Olivo '28 added a goal and an assist apiece. Coyle has registered at least one point in all 10 games he has played in this season.
- Hickey posted his second goal this season and the fourth of the faceoff specialist's career.
- Evan deBerjeois '27 collected his third assist this season and a career-best six ground balls.
- Andrew Higgins '28 won 10 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls.
- Jack Williams '28 made 15 saves and caused two turnovers.
- Jack Goldbach chipped in three goals and two assists for the Bobcats. Miles Schmidt won 16-of-28 faceoffs and gathered 11 ground balls. Teddy Rosen caused three turnovers. Andrew Toland made five of his nine stops in the fourth quarter.
- Bates was a perfect 15-for-15 on clears while Hamilton had only three unsuccessful ones, going 20-for-23.
