Baseball tallies 16 runs in first half of doubleheader at Bowdoin

DiCerbo ’27 and Kaufman ’26 drove in three runs apiece in game one

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hamilton College Continentals split a non-conference doubleheader against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Friday, April 17 to begin a four-game series at Bowdoin's Pickard Field. Hamilton tied its season high in runs during a 16-4 win in game one before the Polar Bears bounced back with a 5-0 win in the nightcap.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (11-13, 5-4 NESCAC West), which has seven neutral site wins, collected its first road victory of the season.
  • Bowdoin (12-15, 3-6 NESCAC East) took one of three games at Trinity last weekend in its most recent NESCAC East Division series.

Game 1 (Hamilton wins, 16-4 in 7 inn.)

How It Happened

  • Hamilton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Lucas Herman '26 drove in Gianni DiCerbo '27 with a single through the left side of the infield.
  • Bowdoin scored two runs in the bottom of the first with the help of a solo home run by Will Bordes.
  • Hamilton's Satish Raichur '28 drove in Michael Tallarida '26 with a single through the right side in the third and tied the game at 2-2.
  • Bowdoin's Will Cooke and Conor Moriarty both scored in the bottom of the fifth and the Polar Bears established a 4-2 advantage.
  • The Continentals tallied five runs in the sixth for a 7-4 lead. Edo Spadaccini '26 delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit in half, DiCerbo drove in two runs with a single to left field, and Tallarida doubled down the left field line to score DiCerbo and Chester Boynton '27.
  • Hamilton's Kenny Harten '29 recorded two strikeouts during a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, then the Continentals broke the game open with nine runs in the top of the seventh. Taylor Kaufman '26 capped the inning with a three-run triple.

Notes

  • Harten collected his first career win after allowing four hits with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
  • Bordes contributed one hit, one run and one RBI for the Polar Bears.
  • DiCerbo finished with a career-high three runs, two hits, and a season high-tying three runs batted in.
  • Kaufman drove in a season-high three runs.
  • Herman tied his career high of three hits for the third time this season.
  • Noa Oyadomari '29 drew a season-high two walks and scored a season-high three runs.
  • Tallarida provided two hits, two RBIs and one run, while Ethan Righter '27 registered two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and one run batted in.

Game 2 (Bowdoin wins, 5-0 in 7 inn.)

How It Happened

  • The Polar Bears got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the second following a Reuben Siegel RBI single, then added four runs in the third for a 5-0 advantage. Bordes led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run, and Cooke provided an RBI double.
  • Anthony Palumbo '29 led off the seventh with a double down the left field line, but Bowdoin reliever Hugh Devine stranded him on base and completed the shutout.

Notes

  • Nicholas Sticka '27 recorded his first hit of the season.
  • Palumbo tallied his fifth double of the season.
  • Sam Humphries '28, Andrew Millington '28 and DiCerbo added one hit each for the Continentals.
  • Hamilton's William Rickens '29 tossed two scoreless innings in relief, while Tanner Quinn '27 and Luke Beyer '27 both delivered 1-2-3 innings in relief.
  • Bordes registered two hits, one run and one RBI for Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin's Jeremiah Chessie improved to 2-0 after striking out three with three hits and zero runs allowed in five innings of work.

Hamilton and Bowdoin will play two more seven-inning contests on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 12 p.m.
