BRUNSWICK, Maine – Hamilton College's
Lily Goldsmith '28 and
Julia Lee '27 notched goals midway through the fourth quarter and lifted the Continentals to an 11-9 NESCAC win against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Bowdoin's Howard F. Ryan Field on Saturday, March 7.
Season Update
- Hamilton (1-2, 1-1 NESCAC) has had all three games decided by three goals or less.
- Bowdoin (1-2, 0-2) was coming off a dominant 17-1 victory at home against Roger Williams University.
How It Happened
- With the score tied at 9-9, Goldsmith weaved through the defense and scored the go-ahead goal with 7:24 left. Just 65 seconds later, Lee followed up with a shot over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net for an 11-9 lead.
- The Continentals held the Polar Bears without a shot for almost four minutes after Lee's goal. Bowdoin finally took three shots in the final 2:30, including two on goal, but Eliza Schwarz '27 stopped them both and secured the win.
- Maddigan Leifer '26 opened the scoring for Hamilton by converting a free-position attempt just 1:40 into the first quarter. Grace Schorr responded two minutes later with the equalizer for Bowdoin.
- Michaela Scannevin '27 ignited a 4-1 run for the Continentals, scoring with 2:18 left in the first quarter. Three of the four goals came on free-position shots for Hamilton, and the Continentals went up 5-2 with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter.
- After a yellow card for Bowdoin gave Hamilton a player-up advantage, Scannevin notched her third goal of the day by splitting two defenders and rifling the ball into the back of the net for an 8-4 advantage with 5:21 left in the third quarter.
- Bowdoin scored five of the next six goals and drew even at 9-9. Ellie Fabbro capped the run with 9:53 to go in the fourth quarter.
Notes
- Sophia Wright '28 notched two goals and two assists and tied her career high with four points for Hamilton. Wright currently leads the team with 11 points.
- Scannevin finished with three goals for her first multi-goal game for the Continentals.
- Grace MacLean '29 scored two goals for the second straight game.
- Lee (two goals) posted her first multi-goal game this season.
- Goldsmith's pivotal goal was her first of 2026.
- Leifer scored her 56th career goal for Hamilton.
- Elizabeth Rudge '27, who entered the day with one draw control, won eight of the Continentals' 12.
- Grace Martucci '28 caused three turnovers. Martucci led the NESCAC in caused turnovers per game last season.
- Schwarz ended up with 11 saves. She leads the conference with 11.33 saves per game and is second in save percentage at .523.
- Schorr paced the Polar Bears' offense with two goals and an assist.
- The Continentals scored on five out of their eight free-position shots, while Bowdoin scored on just one out of four.
- Hamilton has defeated the Polar Bears in back-to-back seasons.
