Women's lacrosse drops non-conference game against SUNY Geneseo

Mascitti '29 paced the Continentals' offense with four goals

CLINTON, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo scored five of the first six goals in the second half and the Knights went on to an 11-8 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Wednesday, March 11.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (1-3 overall) were coming off an 11-9 win at Bowdoin College on March 7.
  • Geneseo (2-3) has won its last two games after opening the season with three straight losses.
 

How It Happened

  • The Knights led 9-5 after they scored three goals in the opening five minutes of the third quarter. Geneseo was up 10-6 through three and held their largest advantage of five goals with 9:51 left in the fourth quarter when Lila Warner's player-up goal made it 11-6.
  • The Knights opened the scoring 2:39 into the first quarter, but Maddigan Leifer '26 drew Hamilton even 68 seconds later. Geneseo grabbed a 4-1 lead on three goals within a two-minute span midway through the first and never trailed.
  • The Continentals' best quarter was the second when they scored four goals and cut their deficit to one three times. Natalie Mascitti '29 pulled Hamilton within 4-3 on two goals 38 seconds apart early in the quarter. Leifer made it 5-4 on a player-up tally with 5:58 remaining, and Mascitti struck again with 59.3 seconds to go as the Continentals went into the break trailing 6-5.

  • Mascitti posted her first multi-goal game as she finished with four.
  • Leifer added three goals and leads Hamilton with eight.
  • Sophia Wright '28 notched her seventh goal and team-leading 12th point this season.
  • Grace MacLean '29 registered her first collegiate assist and Lauren Garringer '29 chipped in her second.
  • Elizabeth Rudge '27 won six draw controls and has 14 in the last two games.
  • Grace Martucci '28 caused three turnovers for the second straight game.
  • Eliza Schwarz '27 made six saves in the first half and has a .519 save percentage in four starts.
  • Clara Paolucci '28 relieved Schwarz at the start of the third quarter and turned away four shots. Paolucci made her first appearance of the season.
  • Grace Reyna scored three goals for the Knights and Rosemary Mahoney had three points on two goals and an assist. Katie Rajkowski contributed two goals and four ground balls. Teagan Culhane stopped six shots.
  • Geneseo held a 31-19 shot advantage and scooped up 24 ground balls to Hamilton's 11.

The Continentals play a NESCAC contest against Connecticut College (2-1, 0-1) in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Sunday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. local time (5:30 Eastern).
