PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Hamilton College broke open a close game in the second quarter with five straight goals and the Continentals coasted in the second half to a 12-4 NESCAC win against the Connecticut College Camels at Publix Park on Sunday, March 15.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-3, 2-1 NESCAC) won its second straight conference game.
- Conn. College (2-2, 0-2) has been outscored 27-5 in its last two contests – both against NESCAC opponents.
How It Happened
- The Continentals' lead was cut to 3-2 after Campbell Johnston scored on a free-position shot 33 seconds into the second quarter.
- The rest of the quarter was mostly Hamilton as the Continentals ran off the next five goals. Hamilton's Natalie Mascitti '29 won the ensuing draw control and Grace MacLean '29 scored for a 4-2 advantage 34 seconds after Johnston's goal.
- Maddigan Leifer '26 made it 5-2 with 8:34 left after Eliza Schwarz '27 stopped a free-position shot at the other end. Kristin Vosswinkel '27 won the next draw and MacLean eventually scored on a feed from Julia Lee '27 with 7:27 remaining.
- MacLean found Sophia Wright '28 for the Continentals' seventh goal with 5:38 to go after Leifer caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball. The Camels called a timeout to try and stop Hamilton's momentum but Vosswinkel captured the draw anyway, and Lee's shot found the back of the net 45 seconds later.
- Player-up goals late in the second quarter and early in the third by Conn. College's Caroline Villarin pulled the Camels within four at 8-4. The Continentals held Conn. College scoreless for the final 24 minutes.
- Hamilton scored twice in the third quarter and two more times in the fourth. Vosswinkel potted two of the goals and Lauren Garringer '29 tallied the other two.
Notes
- MacLean posted season highs of three goals and four points.
- Wright handed out a career-best three assists and tied her career high again with four points. She leads the Continentals with eight helpers and 16 points.
- Lee finished with two goals and an assist for a season-best three points.
- Vosswinkel registered her second multi-goal game and won four draws.
- Garringer boasted her first collegiate multi-goal contest.
- Leifer scored her team-leading ninth goal and added an assist.
- Michaela Scannevin '27 notched her fifth goal at Hamilton.
- Schwarz made nine saves and collected three ground balls. She's second in the NESCAC with a .544 save percentage and leads the conference with 9.80 saves per game.
- Grace Martucci '28 scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Johnston and Villarin scored two goals apiece for the Camels. Hannah Merritt won six draws and Ava Virga turned away nine shots.
- The Continentals held a 29-18 shot advantage, committed just eight turnovers and were a perfect 16-for-16 on clear attempts.
- Hamilton extended its win streak against Conn. College to 16 games.
