Men’s lacrosse defeated by No. 3 Bowdoin in home opener

Olivo ’28 and Kraus ’28 both recorded three points for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears closed the third quarter with six straight goals and pulled away from the Hamilton College Continentals for a 17-9 NESCAC win at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon, March 7.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (0-3, 0-2 NESCAC) played its third consecutive ranked opponent to begin the season.
  • The third-ranked Polar Bears (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) bested Middlebury in their season opener at home on Feb. 28 by a score of 12-9.
 

How It Happened

  • Bowdoin's Chris Berry scooped up a ground ball behind the Hamilton goal, made a quick move to goal line extended, leapt in the air and scored to give the Polar Bears an 8-5 lead with 13:55 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Continentals responded with goals on back-to-back possessions. Jesse Delinsky '26 fired a low left-handed shot from the right alley into the net with 12:47 left, then David Russell '26 circled around the net and put away his first goal of the year with 11:28 remaining to cut Hamilton's deficit to 8-7.
  • Bowdoin then reeled off six goals between the 9:41 and 6:53 marks in the period to extend its lead to 14-7. Casey Ryan scored four goals during the stretch for the Polar Bears.
  • Hamilton ended the run early in the fourth as Finn Vaccaro '29 sent a pass up top to Frank Coyle '26, who stepped down towards goal and placed his shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Bowdoin scored the next two goals to extend its lead to 16-8 with 5:35 left.
  • Vaccaro assisted Maddux Little '27 for a goal with 5:07 left, then Ryan scored his sixth of the game for Bowdoin with 3:04 remaining to make it 17-9.
  • Bowdoin got off to a strong start against the Continentals, and held a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Hamilton scored three straight to begin the second quarter, tying the game at 4-4 with 9:59 left.
  • Sam Raye-Steiner scored a man-up goal for the Polar Beats with 7:32 remaining, then Thomas Healy '26 scored through contact at the 6:02 mark to once again even the score.
  • Berry scored the final two goals of the second to give the Polar Bears a 7-5 lead at halftime.

Notes

  • Ryan Olivo '28 finished with a season-high three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Carson Kraus '28 distributed a career-high three assists.
  • Coyle and Delinsky both scored two goals for the Continentals.
  • Olivo, Delinsky and Kraus each recorded four shots on goal.
  • Jack Williams '28 came up with 19 saves for Hamilton.
  • Vaccaro registered two assists for the second consecutive game.
  • Ryan recorded seven points for Bowdoin on six goals and one assist.
  • Berry tallied four goals and two assists, while Raye-Steiner provided three goals, two assists and six ground balls.
  • Alex Choi went 11-of-15 on faceoffs for Bowdoin.

Hamilton will continue NESCAC play against Connecticut College (2-1, 0-1 NESCAC) at Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m.
