Men’s lacrosse picks up 8-7 win against Conn. College, Kraus ’28 scores three

Continentals advance to the championship game in the HEADstrong Diplomat Classic

LANCASTER, Pa. – Hamilton College's Ryan Olivo '28 scored the go-ahead goal with 3:43 remaining and Jack Williams '28 tallied 12 saves in the Continentals' 8-7 NESCAC win over the Connecticut College Camels at Franklin & Marshall College's Shadek Stadium on Saturday, March 14.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (1-3, 1-2 NESCAC) captured its first win of the season in its first game at the HEADstrong Diplomat Classic. Conn. College was the Continentals' first unranked opponent.
  • The Camels (3-2, 0-2) were coming off an 18-12 win at Salve Regina University on March 9.


How It Happened

  • Conn. College's Graydon Diamond made a move from the X and scored a lefty goal with 7:20 left in the fourth quarter that tied the score at 7-7.
  • Hamilton's Frank Coyle '26 forced a turnover during a Conn. College clear attempt with 4:51 left. On the ensuing possession, Olivo made a move towards goal from the left alley and hit the left side of the net from straight on to make it 8-7.
  • Williams came up with a save on a bouncing shot at the 1:13 mark and maintained the lead. The Camels regained possession with just under a minute remaining, and the Hamilton defense prevented them from taking a shot before the final buzzer.
  • Conn. College held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Carson Kraus '28 hit the post with 6:21 left in the first, but the Camels struck first as Will Zaslow found the back of the net at the 3:47 mark. Liam Horkan scored for Conn. College with 1:26 remaining.
  • Hamilton began the second quarter with three straight goals. Kraus used a hesitation move to create space and score from the left alley with 8:20 left. Finn Vaccaro '29 found David Russell '26 for a goal a little over one minute later and tied the score at 2-2.
  • Kraus scored from the left alley with 2:05 left and gave the Continentals their first lead.
  • Conn. College ended the run with just over one minute remaining as Horkan fired a shot across his body into the bottom-right corner of the net.
  • Thomas Healy '26 sprinted past his defender on the right side and scored with under five seconds left for a 4-3 Hamilton lead at the intermission.
  • Conn. College scored the first two goals in the third quarter and grabbed a 5-4 lead.
  • Kraus blew by his defender and bounced a shot into the bottom-left corner of the goal with 7:06 left. Maddux Little '27 scored a man-up goal with 5:48 remaining that made it 6-5.
  • Conn. College's Andrew Rainville's goal with 11:59 left in the fourth once again tied the score. Coyle finished off a pass from Little with 9:10 left and pushed Hamilton back in front, 7-6.

Notes

  • Vaccaro recorded two assists for the third consecutive game. He has registered at least one point in each of his first four games as a Continental.
  • Kraus scored a season-high three goals and tallied three points for the second straight game.
  • Little finished with one goal and one assist.
  • Charlie Rooney '27 collected his first point of the season with an assist.
  • Reece Hickey '26 registered a team-high four ground balls and won 6-of-8 faceoffs.
  • Coyle and Riley Chai-Onn '27 provided a team-high two caused turnovers apiece.
  • Rainville and Horkan contributed two goals and one assist each for the Camels.
  • Conn. College's Henry Dumler caused three turnovers, while Ardem Sarajian totaled four ground balls.
 

Next Game

Hamilton takes on Franklin & Marshall (5-2) in the championship game of the HEADstrong Diplomat Classic on Sunday, March 15 at 5 p.m.
