Men's lacrosse wins second game in as many days in Pennsylvania

Delinsky '26 put the Continentals in the lead for good with his goal early in the fourth quarter

LANCASTER, Pa. – Hamilton College's Ryan Olivo '28 scored a career-high four goals and added an assist in the Continentals' 12-9 non-conference win against the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats at F&M's Shadek Stadium on Sunday, March 15.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-3 overall) won the championship game of the HEADstrong Diplomat Classic. The Continentals edged Connecticut College 8-7 on March 14.
  • The Diplomats (5-3) are receiving votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Top 20 coaches poll. F&M defeated Endicott College 14-12 on March 14.

How It Happened

  • The score was tied 8-8 after three quarters, but Hamilton scored the next four goals. Jesse Delinsky '26 put the Continentals ahead to stay with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter. Hamilton forced a turnover in the Diplomats' defensive zone and Olivo picked up the loose ball and quickly found Delinsky to the right of the goal. He eluded a defender, moved towards the center and scored from the edge of the crease.
  • Thomas Healy '26 made it 10-8 with 9:23 remaining. Healy had the ball several yards to the right of the goal, beat his defender as he drove towards the crease, and shot the ball from close range before help could arrive.
  • Carson Kraus '28 took a pass on the left side and immediately found Finn Vaccaro '29 about 10 yards closer to the goal on the same side. Vaccaro turned and put a shot into the back of the net from 20 feet away with 2:24 to go.
  • Olivo clinched the win with 1:03 left. After a timeout by the Continentals, Olivo took the ball from right to left behind the goal, beat two defenders and came back out to the front of the goal where he scored on an empty net for a 12-8 advantage.
  • Hamilton fell behind 1-0 and 3-1 early before the Continentals ended the first quarter with three straight goals. Olivo scored two of the three goals and Healy had two assists during the mini-run that gave Hamilton a 4-3 edge after the first 15 minutes.
  • F&M outscored Hamilton 3-1 in the second quarter and led 6-5 at the half.
  • Healy, Kraus and Maddux Little '27 scored for the Continentals in the third quarter. Kraus' goal, on a feed from Vaccaro, put Hamilton up 7-6 with 5:39 remaining in the third and the Continentals didn't trail again. Liam Timmins drew the Diplomats even at 8-8 on his goal with 1:56 to go.
  • There were seven ties and three lead changes through the end of the third quarter.

Notes

  • Olivo tied a career high with his five points.
  • Healy ended up with two goals and two assists for his first multi-point game this season. He moved into fourth place on the team's all-time goals list with 103.
  • Vaccaro tied his season best with three points on a goal and two assists. He's registered two helpers in each of the last four games and leads the team with eight.
  • Little (two goals) recorded his second multi-goal game this season and has six total.
  • Delinsky chipped in two goals for his second multi-goal performance this season.
  • Kraus had a goal and an assist and has posted at least two points in all five games. He tops the team with 13 points and is tied with Olivo for the lead with eight goals.
  • Frank Coyle '26 kept his point streak alive at five games with an assist.
  • Faceoff specialist Andrew Higgins '28 had his best day at Hamilton with a career-high nine ground balls and 18 faceoff wins out of 22 taken.
  • Lance Dominick '27 led the defense with a career-high three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Ben Greco '27 earned his first collegiate win in goal after making four saves and allowing just three goals in the second half. Jack Williams '28 stopped two shots in the first half.
  • Eli Crystal scored three goals and Ben Dale had four assists for F&M. Teddy Scarborough turned away 18 shots.
  • The Continentals nearly doubled the Diplomats' ground ball total at 36-19, mostly due to the fact Hamilton won 20-of-25 faceoffs.
  • Sunday marked the first-ever meeting between the teams.
