CLINTON, N.Y. – Clarkson University's Jacob Shirley tossed six scoreless innings in game one, and CJ Cartier tallied two hits and three runs in game two as the Golden Knights claimed two seven-inning contests against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 7.
Season Update
- Hamilton (0-4 overall) began a five-game homestand.
- Clarkson (3-1) split a doubleheader with Muhlenberg on Feb. 28.
Game 1
How It Happened
- Clarkson scored both of the game's runs in the top of the seventh. Cartier and James Chagnon led off the inning with back-to-back walks, then Aidan McGuire moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt.
- Cartier and Chagnon both crossed the plate following a fielder's choice and an error to make it 2-0.
- Hamilton put a runner in scoring position with two outs in the fourth and fifth innings, but both times Shirley got a strikeout to end the frame.
Notes
- Michael Tallarida '26 and Gianni DiCerbo '27 both recorded a hit for the Continentals, while Satish Raichur '28 reached base with a walk.
- Aden Soroca '27 allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts in five innings during his second start this season.
- Shirley tallied seven strikeouts with one hit allowed to collect his first win of the season.
- CJ Kanick picked up the save for the Golden Knights.
Game 2
How It Happened
- Clarkson jumped out to a lead with five runs in the top of the first. Chagnon drove in two runs with a single to center field, and came around to score later in the inning.
- Hamilton got two runs back in the bottom of the frame. Taylor Kaufman '26 started a two-out rally with a single up the middle. DiCerbo drew a walk to move him into scoring position, then Kaufman stole third and scored on a throwing error. DiCerbo scored on a fielding error to make it 5-2.
- The Continentals scored three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5. Alfonso Rada '27 drove in Tallarida with a single to center field, then Anthony Palumbo '29 smashed a two-run double to left field with two outs.
- Clarkson went back in front with two runs in the fifth, then extended its lead to 8-5 in the sixth as Davis Harris drove in James Mason with a ground ball to the right side.
- Kaufman drove in Jeremy Diaz '27 with a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-6.
- The Golden Knights added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Seth Albert drove in Cameron Barbulean and Cartier with a single to left field.
Notes
- Tallarida finished with two hits and one run. He has recorded at least one hit in all four games so far.
- Palumbo registered his first career runs batted in and his first extra-base hit.
- Ethan Righter '27 recorded his first hit and run of the season.
- Rada and DiCerbo both drew two walks. Rada added one hit, one run and one RBI.
- Albert finished with two hits, two runs batted in and one run scored for Clarkson.
- Clarkson's Ryan Petrie collected the win on the mound after allowing two hits and one run in 3.1 innings in relief.
