Wesleyan wins tight game two to sweep doubleheader against softball

Guerra ’27 went 2-for-2 with two walks in game one

Middletown, Conn. – Wesleyan University's Cat Palmer tallied a combined four hits in the Cardinals' two NESCAC wins over the Hamilton College Continentals at the Wesleyan Softball Field on Sunday, March 29.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-11, 0-4 NESCAC) dropped a doubleheader at Trinity College on Saturday, March 28.
  • Wesleyan (9-8, 3-3 NESCAC) was swept by No. 11 Tufts at home on Saturday, March 28.

Game 1 (Wesleyan wins, 8-2)

How It Happened

  • Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead.
  • Jordynn Killion provided a sacrifice fly in the frame, and Rebecca Cassel-Siskind drove in Palmer with a single to center field.
  • Hamilton got a run back in the second as Juliana Abraham '29 drove in Alexis Mayer '26 with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The Continentals cut their deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third after Nikki Dyche '28 crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
  • Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth to extend its lead to 8-2.
  • Hamilton loaded the bases in the fifth and the seventh but was unable to trim its deficit.

Notes

  • Gaby Guerra '27 went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks.
  • Mayer recorded two hits, one walk and one run.
  • Yael Everett '28 allowed one hit and zero runs in the final 2.2 innings.
  • Kelly Baker earned her first win of the season for Wesleyan after allowing one run in one inning.
  • Whitney Gigante collected her first save after limiting the Continentals to three hits, two walks and zero runs with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
  • Palmer went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
  • Molly Lennon added two hits, one walk and two runs for the Cardinals.
 

Game 2 (Wesleyan wins, 3-1)

How It Happened

  • Wesleyan held a 1-0 lead after five innings, then scored two in the sixth for a 3-0 advantage. Ella DeCrescenzo tripled to drive in Cassel-Siskind.
  • Hamilton's Kelsey Vadnais '28 drove in Mayer with a single to left field in the top of the seventh and cut the deficit to 3-1.

Notes

  • Mayer has recorded a hit in each of the last five games.
  • Miranda Mosqueda '28 reached base twice with a single and a walk.
  • Everett pitched all six innings with three strikeouts and three runs allowed.
  • Hamilton struck out just one time in a game for the fifth time this season.
  • DeCrescenzo earned the win for Wesleyan after allowing four hits and one run in seven innings. She also tallied one hit, one run and one RBI at the plate.
