HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College's Kaysen Shikar tossed a complete game shutout in game one and the Bantams won both contests of a doubleheader against the Hamilton College Continentals at the Trinity Softball Field on Saturday, March 28.
Season Update
- Hamilton (5-9, 0-2 NESCAC) dropped a doubleheader against Utica University in its home opener on Wednesday, March 25.
- Trinity (8-4, 2-0 NESCAC) has won four of its last five games.
Game 1 (Trinity wins, 3-0)
How It Happened
- The Bantams scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Makenna True drove in Lizzie Nelson with a double down the right field line, then a Hamilton error scored Emily Goddard, and True crossed the plate following a double by Ashleigh Lent.
- Hamilton's Gaby Guerra '27 ripped a double with two outs in the top of the fourth, and the Continentals put runners on first and third in the fifth, but were unable to scratch a run across.
Notes
- Guerra went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded her first extra-base hit of the season.
- Sofia Santana '26 recorded a single and a stolen base.
- Lydia Mirabito '26 drew two walks for Hamilton. She is tied for second in the NESCAC with nine walks on the season.
- Lauren Farace '29 recorded four strikeouts in six innings of work for the Continentals.
- Shikar allowed four hits and four walks with five strikeouts in seven scoreless innings to collect her third win of the season.
- Abby Alper, Isabella Calagna and True each registered two hits for the Bantams.
Game 2 (Trinity wins, 4-3)
How It Happened
- Hamilton jumped in front with two runs in the top of the first. Yael Everett '28 and Nikki Dyche '28 recorded back-to-back singles, and Alexis Mayer '26 drove them in with a double to left field.
- Trinity cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the first as Alper ripped a leadoff single and came around to score later in the frame.
- Santana and Dyche each singled in the third, then Miranda Mosqueda '28 drove in Santana with a ground ball for a 3-1 lead.
- Trinity tied the game at 3-3 in the third with the help of an RBI single by Katie Ruffer.
- The Bantams scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as Mikayla O'Brien ripped a single down the right field line and drove in Lent.
- Alison Zorn '26 led off the top of the seventh with a single up the middle, and Hamilton put runners on second and third later in the inning, but Trinity's Erin Connor got a ground ball for the final out and secured the doubleheader sweep.
Notes
- Dyche recorded two hits and one run. She leads the team with a .400 batting average through 14 starts.
- Santana and Everett provided one hit and one run each. Santana also drew a walk.
- Mayer reached base twice with a double and a walk and tied her season high with two runs batted in.
- Mosqueda added one walk, one RBI and one stolen base.
- Everett recorded a career-high six strikeouts in six innings pitched.
- Alper totaled two hits and two runs for the Bantams.
- Connor pitched all seven innings and improved to 3-0 on the year.
