Baseball splits doubleheader against Williams, secures series win

Tallarida ’26 drove in four runs on the day

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Hamilton College Continentals claimed a 9-7 win over the Williams College Ephs in game one of a doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park on Saturday, March 28 and earned a NESCAC West Division series victory. The Ephs won game two by a score of 12-5.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (7-8, 2-1 NESCAC West) won game one of the series against the Ephs by a score of 9-7 on March 27. The Continentals concluded their spring break trip to Florida with a 7-3 record.
  • Williams (6-6, 1-2) played its ninth game in eight days.

Game 1 (Hamilton wins, 9-7 in 7 inn.)

How It Happened

  • Hamilton grabbed a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first. Alfonso Rada '27 poked a single to center field with the bases loaded, driving in Taylor Kaufman '26 and Michael Tallarida '26. Lucas Herman '26 crossed the plate on a balk, and Jeremy Diaz '27 drove in Rada with a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0.
  • Williams scored two in the bottom of the second, but Hamilton extended its lead to 6-2 in the third after Andrew Millington '28 drove in Rada and Satish Raichur '28 with a single to center field.
  • Tallarida smacked a single to center field in the fifth and drove in Millington and Gianni DiCerbo '27 for an 8-3 advantage. Chester Boynton '27 crossed the plate later in the inning to make it 9-3.
  • Williams added one run in the fifth, and three in the sixth to trim its deficit to 9-7.
  • Mantas Kempinas '28 got the final three outs in the seventh with the help of a 6-3 double play to collect the save.

Notes

  • Hamilton's Mark Kovach '28 recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings to earn his second win of the season.
  • Kempinas' save is the first of his career.
  • Tallarida, Rada and Millington each drove in two runs.
  • Rada finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
  • DiCerbo went 2-for-2 with one run, one walk and one hit by pitch.
  • Tallarida drew a team-high two walks.
  • Ben Swank finished with three hits and two runs batted in for the Ephs.
  • Williams' Anthony Lods launched a home run in the sixth.
 

Game 2 (Williams wins, 12-5)

How It Happened

  • Williams scored four runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead. Ryan Nakajima drove in two runs during the frame with a single to right field.
  • Anthony Palumbo '29 launched his first career home run to left field in the top of the fourth and cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • Williams added three runs on three hits in the fourth for a 7-2 advantage.
  • Tallarida lifted a two-run shot to left field in the fifth to make it 7-4.
  • Palumbo singled in the sixth and came around to score later in the inning to make it 9-5.
  • Williams tacked on three more runs in the eighth.

Notes

  • Tallarida launched his first home run of the season and the 19th of his career.
  • The Continentals recorded their first multi-home run game of the season.
  • Tallarida leads the team in runs batted in, and is tied for third in the NESCAC with 18.
  • Palumbo recorded a season-high two hits and a season-best two runs.
  • Hamilton's Edo Spadaccini '26 registered a career-high two hits and scored a run.
  • Kenny Harten '29 struck out three batters in three innings pitched.
  • Kyle Egidio '27 tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts.
  • Peyton Rose earned the win for Williams after completing six innings of work with five strikeouts.
  • Nate Rosner allowed zero hits and zero runs in two innings in relief for the Ephs.
  • Williams' Quinn Carlesimo tallied three hits and two runs batted in, while Swank scored a game-high three runs with two hits and two walks.
