MELBOURNE, Fla. – Hamilton College's
Lauren Farace '29 registered a win and a save in the circle, while
Gaby Guerra '27 and
Lydia Mirabito '26 recorded four hits apiece during the Continentals' victories over the Grinnell College Pioneers and the University of Hartford Hawks at the USSSA Space Coast Complex on Tuesday, March 17.
Season Update
- The Continentals (2-4 overall) have four more games to go in Florida.
- Grinnell (4-10) was coming off a 4-3 win over UMass Boston on March 16.
- Hartford (6-4) dropped to 4-4 at the Space Coast Spring Games.
Grinnell
How It Happened
- The Pioneers got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Julia Marquez ripped a double that put Grinnell runners on second and third, and Gabriella Simon and Ava Araujo drew back-to-back walks.
- Hamilton took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Farace drove in Kelsey Vadnais '28 with a ground ball to the right side, and Jess Chieco '29 brought in Sammy Morris '29 with a sacrifice fly.
- Grinnell put a runner on third with one out in the fifth, but Farace got two consecutive ground balls to third base and maintained Hamilton's one-run lead.
- Grinnell's Emily Gonzalez ripped a double with one out in the sixth and came around to score the tying run later in the inning.
- Hamilton put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth and extended its lead to 6-2. Guerra and Sofia Santana '26 delivered RBI singles in the frame.
- Farace tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh and closed out the win.
Notes
- Farace allowed just three hits and one unearned run with no walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings as she collected her first career win.
- Mirabito reached base three times with a base hit and two walks.
- Alison Zorn '26 scored a game-high two runs.
- Santana tallied a hit, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
- Chieco made her first career start in the circle for Hamilton.
- Grinnell's Emma Skibbie allowed two walks and two unearned runs in three hitless innings of relief.
Hartford
How It Happened
- Hamilton put together a two-out rally in the top of the first inning and scratched across two runs. Nikki Dyche '28 and Mirabito singled through the infield, and Hadley Rogers '26 poked a base hit to right center that drove in Dyche. Guerra made it four consecutive singles with a base hit through the right side and drove in Mirabito for a 2-0 advantage.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Hartford's Adelie Beebe ripped a single to left field and drove in Eryn Coyle, but Morris threw the middle runner out at the plate and prevented the tying run from scoring.
- The Continentals tacked on two runs in the fifth. Mirabito led off with a single to left field and Santana entered as a pinch runner and promptly stole second base. Guerra drove in Santana with a single to center field and came around to score on a double to left center by Vadnais.
- Hartford got a run back in the bottom of the frame and made it 4-2, but Mirabito drove in Chieco with a double down the left field line in the top of the sixth and extended Hamilton's lead back to three.
- Hartford's Anita Farkash drove in Sydney Matz with a base hit in the bottom of the seventh and trimmed its deficit to 5-3. Farace coaxed a fly ball and an infield pop up that stranded the tying run on base and earned the save.

- Guerra finished with three hits, a run scored and a team-high two runs batted.
- Mirabito set a career high with three hits. She also tallied her first run, RBI and extra-base hit of the season.
- Rogers, Yael Everett '28 and Chieco registered two hits each.
- Farace is the first Continental pitcher to record a win and a save on the same day since opening day of the 2024 season.
- Juliana Abraham '29 registered her first career hit (a double) for Hamilton.
- Everett allowed two runs in five innings and collected her first win of the season.
- The Continentals' 15 hits are tied for the most that they have recorded in a game since the beginning of the 2023 season.
