Softball drops doubleheader against Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Mosqueda ’28 recorded two hits and two stolen bases in game two

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Hamilton College was swept by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds in a doubleheader and then fell to Central College (Iowa) at the USSSA Space Coast Complex on Monday, March 16. The game with Central was the completion of a contest that was suspended in the top of the sixth inning due to thunderstorms on March 15.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (0-4 overall) has six games remaining at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.
  • Wisconsin-Eau Claire (12-4) extended its win streak to seven games.

Game 1

How It Happened

  • Hamilton's starting pitcher Yael Everett '28 tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first and the Continentals got on the board in the bottom of the frame. Sofia Santana '26 drew a walk and stole second base, and Alexis Mayer '26 smashed a double to left field that drove her in and put Hamilton in front, 1-0.
  • Hamilton loaded the bases in the second, but Wis.-Eau Claire's Claire Beck got a foul fly ball to end the inning.
  • The Blugolds tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth as Chloe Ricard drove in Bella Florio with a single to the left side of the infield.
  • Hamilton regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth after Hadley Rogers '26 brought in Lauren Farace '29 with a sacrifice fly.
  • Wis.-Eau Claire's Norah Kutnink drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth and tied the score at 2-2. Maddy Pieper entered the game as a pinch runner for Beck in the top of the seventh and came around to score later in the inning for a 3-2 Blugolds lead.
  • Kasey Felden entered the circle for Wis.-Eau Claire and got the final two outs in the bottom of the seventh for the save.

  • Santana went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base.
  • Mayer recorded her first extra-base hit of the season.
  • Rogers collected her first RBI of the season and drew a walk.
  • Farace scored her first career run.
  • Everett allowed four hits in seven innings and recorded a complete game.
  • Beck improved to 4-1 on the season for the Blugolds.

Game 2

How It Happened

  • Everett led off game two with a double to left field and Farace laced a single up the middle that drove her in and put Hamilton in front, 1-0.
  • Wis.-Eau Claire scored four in the bottom of the first with the help of a three-run home run by Beck.
  • The Continentals trimmed their deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third as Farace drew a walk, advanced to second following a single by Miranda Mosqueda '28, stole third and scored on a throwing error.
  • Wis.-Eau Claire's Breeley Glutch and Marlee Smith delivered RBI singles in the fourth and the Blugolds extended their lead to 6-2.
  • Bella Florio stole two bases and scored in the fifth for the 7-2 final.

  • Aubrey Purvis '27 and Farace recorded two strikeouts apiece in the circle for Hamilton.
  • Mosqueda went 2-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases for the Continentals.
  • Farace tallied one hit, one run, one RBI, one walk and two stolen bases.
  • Kelsey Vadnais '28 added her first hit of the season.
  • Paige Lathrop drew three walks for the Blugolds.
  • Kasey Felden allowed one hit, zero runs and one walk in 3.2 innings in relief for the Blugolds.
 

Conclusion of Hamilton vs. Central

  • The score was tied 1-1 with Hamilton at bat in the top of the sixth when the game was suspended on Sunday. A base hit by Nikki Dyche '28 drove in Mosqueda and tied the score in the third.
  • In the first at bat on Monday, Jess Chieco '29 collected her first career hit and RBI in one swing, ripping a double to left field and driving in Dyche for a 2-1 Hamilton lead.
  • Central came up with a big inning in the bottom of the frame, scoring six on four hits, including a two-run single up the middle by Rylee Dunkin.
