MELBOURNE, Fla. – St. Norbert College's Elly Kirst tallied two hits, two runs and one RBI and the Green Knights recorded a 5-2 win over the Hamilton College Continentals at the USSSA Space Coast Complex on Sunday morning, March 15.
Season Update
- Hamilton (0-1 overall) had it's second game of the day against Central College suspended in the sixth inning due to lightning.
- St. Norbert (4-4) defeated Western Connecticut State later in the day and claimed its third win in a row.
How It Happened
- St. Norbert struck first in the top of the first inning as Kirst drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a passed ball.
- The Continentals got the run back in the bottom of the frame. Miranda Mosqueda '28 and Alexis Mayer '26 ripped back-to-back singles and a double steal gave Hamilton runners on second and third with one out. Nikki Dyche '28 drove in Mosqueda with a base hit to left field.
- St. Norbert's Sophia Nieckula pinch ran for Karleigh Linssen following a leadoff walk in the second and came around to score later in the inning for a 2-1 lead.
- Kirst led off the third with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Hamilton starting pitcher Aubrey Purvis '27 got back-to-back fly outs in foul territory and stranded the runner on third.
- St. Norbert extended its lead to 3-1 in the fifth as Kirst singled through the right side, stole second, and crossed the plate on a double by Grendel Sprong.
- Mosqueda smashed a double down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth and Mayer drove her in with a single to left field, trimming Hamilton's deficit to 3-2.
- St. Norbert added two insurance runs in the sixth with the help of an RBI single up the middle by Molly Reichenberger.
- Alison Zorn '26 led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to right center, but St. Norbert starting pitcher Addison Maurer got a pop up and two groundouts and Zorn was stranded at third.
- St. Norbert's Amber Johanek got the final three outs in the bottom of the seventh and earned the save.
Notes
- Mayer went 3-for-4 with one run batted in.
- Dyche and Mosqueda recorded two hits apiece. Dyche added an RBI, while Mosqueda scored both runs.
- Lydia Mirabito '26 drew Hamilton's lone walk.
- Purvis pitched all seven innings for the Continentals, collecting her second career complete game.
- Mosqueda, Mayer and Dyche recorded one stolen base each.
- Jess Chieco '29 made her first career start for the Continentals.
- Hamilton totaled nine hits compared to six for the Green Knights.
- Morgan Jarvi and Linssen provided one hit and one run apiece for St. Norbert.
