No. 4/10 Johns Hopkins completes weekend sweep of baseball

Blue Jays scored 10 runs in the eighth to pull away

BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins' Jacob Harris recorded two extra-base hits and drove in four runs to lead the Blue Jays to a 17-3 win over the Hamilton College Continentals at Johns Hopkins' Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium on Sunday, Mar. 1.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (0-2) will begin a five-game homestand next Saturday.
  • Johns Hopkins (6-1), which is ranked fourth in the ABCA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll and 10th in the first D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll, has played all seven of its games at home.

How It Happened

  • For the second consecutive game, Hamilton struck first in the top of the first. Chester Boynton '27 drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and came around to score on a Taylor Kaufman '26 single to center field.
  • Hopkins' Logan Scully lifted a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the second to put the Blue Jays in front, 2-1.
  • Alfonso Rada '27 drove in Kaufman with a double in the fourth to make it 3-2.
  • Harris launched a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth and established a 7-2 advantage for Hopkins.
  • Hamilton trimmed its deficit to 7-3 in the eighth as Rada drove in Michael Tallarida '26 with a single to left.
  • Hopkins put the game out of reach with 10 runs in the bottom of the frame. The Blue Jays capped the inning with a three-run home run by Nathan Lewis.


Notes

  • Rada finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
  • Kaufman reached base four times with two singles, a walk and a hit by pitch, and registered two stolen bases.
  • Satish Raichur '28, who homered in his first collegiate at bat on Saturday, ripped a double in the seventh for his second extra-base hit in as many games.
  • Mark Kovach '28 recorded three strikeouts in three innings of work.
  • Hopkins' Thomas Cancian collected his first win of the season after allowing two hits and two runs with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
  • Harris recorded a game-high three hits and scored three runs.
  • William Jaun added two hits and three runs for the Blue Jays.


Next Game

Hamilton will host Clarkson University (1-1) for a doubleheader at the Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m.
