Women's basketball gets defensive, leads from start to finish at Colby

The Continentals held the Mules to 26.4 percent shooting from the field

WATERVILLE, Maine – Hamilton College turned in a great defensive performance and received 11 points from Maggie Kernodle '29 as the Continentals cruised to a 52-37 NESCAC victory over the Colby College Mules on Colby's Whitmore-Mitchell Court inside the Margaret M. Crooks Center on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (10-10, 2-4 NESCAC) held its opponent to a season-low point total in conference play.
  • Colby (11-8, 2-4) suffered its third straight loss and its fourth in the last five games.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton started the first quarter on a 9-0 run. The spurt was capped by Zoe Myslewicz '28, who made a layup over a Colby defender after she received a nice feed from Kendall Harris '27.
  • Colby's first points did not come until the 2:24 mark of the first when Chelsea Ibenegbu converted two free throws. Hamilton ended the quarter up 9-4 and held Colby to 1-of-11 shooting from the field.
  • The Mules pulled within two points twice in the second quarter, including 13-11 with 5:58 remaining. Taylor Lambo '26 helped keep Hamilton in front with a layup after she got deep post position and accepted a pass from Kernodle.
  • The Continentals closed the quarter with a 10-0 burst and led 23-11 at the break. Harris scored six points during the run, including a driving layup that she made despite being fouled. She converted the free throw and completed the three-point play.
  • Hamilton led by double digits the rest of the way. Kernodle contributed four points early in the third quarter, highlighted by her blowing by a defender and laying the ball in with her left hand.
  • The Continentals outscored the Mules 13-4 during the last four minutes of the third and enjoyed a 20-point cushion at 41-21. The strong close to the quarter included a nice give-and-go as Reagan Dowd '29 fed Abbey Schwoebel '27 in the post, and she passed it back to a cutting Dowd for a layup.
  • Hamilton led by as many as 23 points at 52-29 with 2:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Continentals benefited from five points by Dowd, including a three-pointer after a kick-out pass from Alexis Prybyla '29.
  • Colby scored the last eight points with six of those coming from Lauren Cho.

  • The Continentals led for all but 23 seconds in the 40-minute contest.
