No. 19 women’s soccer records 1-1 draw at Union

Sullivan ’29 scored her 10th goal of the season for the Continentals

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Lila Sullivan '29 scored an equalizer in the first half and the Continentals registered a 1-1 non-conference draw against the Union College Garnet Chargers at Union's College Park Field on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (8-2-2 overall), which moved up to No. 19 in the latest IWSOC Coaches Poll, was coming off a 1-0 win over Amherst at home on Saturday, Oct. 10.
  • Union (4-3-6), which holds a 2-0-3 record in Liberty League play, has recorded five draws at home this season.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton created the first scoring opportunities, as Isabel Harvey '28 and Sullivan each fired a shot in the opening four minutes, but both attempts went wide.
  • Union took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when Julia Bancheri converted a penalty kick following a handball in the box.
  • The Continentals evened the score in the 36th minute. Kate Giglio '28 delivered a corner kick into the box, where the ball was flicked on and then deflected off a Union player toward the near post. With a defender closely guarding her, Sullivan knocked the ball out of the air and into the net.
  • Neither team recorded a shot during the rest of the half and the score remained tied after 45 minutes.
  • Hamilton's Lydia DeTraglia '28 drove a shot on target from just outside the top of the box in the 48th minute that was saved by Maya Koster.
  • Less than one minute later, Union's Taylor Bovardi made a run into the right side of the box off a long throw in, but her high shot was saved and knocked out of bounds by Corah Boller '29.
  • Sullivan recorded two shots on goal in the final six minutes, but Brooke Rosenshine saved both to preserve the draw.

Notes

  • Sullivan scored her team-leading 10th goal and matched her career high with five shots, including three on goal. She ranks second in the NESCAC in goals, shots on goal (24), and points (21).
  • Boller made two saves for the Continentals.
  • Hamilton held a 10-5 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Union finished with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Giglio made her 40th career start for the Continentals and logged 90 minutes for the 10th consecutive match.
  • Koster and Rosenshine posted two saves apiece for the Garnet Chargers.
