Sheridan '26 blanks SUNY Canton in 2-0 win for No. 15 women's hockey

Senior goaltender has two shutouts in three starts this season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Evie Sheridan '26 made 19 saves for her second shutout in three starts this season, and the Continentals posted a 2-0 non-conference win against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 3.

Season Update

  • The 15th-ranked Continentals (5-3-1 overall) played for the first time since Dec. 9. Hamilton is 5-1-0 at Sage Rink.
  • SUNY Canton (7-4-0), which has a 1-3 record in the SUNYAC, played for the first time in four weeks.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals took a 1-0 lead on their second shot on goal just 68 seconds into the first period. A backhand shot by Grace Crowley '26 from the left faceoff circle was stopped by Roos goaltender Molly Lenihan, but Bri Rockwood '28 tapped in the rebound from near the right post.
  • SUNY Canton mustered three shots on goal during its two power-play chances. The first covered the final 1:51 of the first period and the first nine seconds of the second period, and the second penalty on Hamilton was called 35 seconds into the third period.
  • The Continentals' Jamie Porter '28 hit the crossbar on a partial breakaway midway through the first period.
  • After a second period without any goals or penalties, Hamilton made it a two-goal advantage 5:42 into the third. Cuora Sullivan '26 took a wrist shot from above the right faceoff circle and Lydia Bullock '26 tipped the puck out of midair. Lenihan got a piece of the deflection but the loose puck bounced out to Lilly Truchon '26 at the top of the crease and she poked it into the net.
  • The Roos pulled Lenihan for a sixth skater with 1:50 left but managed just one shot that was off-target.
  • Truchon hit the right post on a shot on the empty net with a little more than a minute remaining.
