Women's hockey can't complete comeback in 3-2 setback at Colby in Maine

McMahon '27 scored the first goal of her career with the Continentals

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College's Beth Sinson had a goal and an assist and won 17-of-24 faceoffs in the Mules' 3-2 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Colby's Jack Kelley Rink on Friday night, Jan. 9.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-4-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC), which received votes in the Jan. 5 USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll, is winless in four games away from home.
  • Nationally ranked No. 15 Colby (6-2-0, 2-1) has won six of its last seven games and two in a row.

How It Happened

  • A turnover by the Continentals cost them early in the first period. Lulu Gray tapped the puck along to Emily Olsthoorn, who maneuvered right in front of the net and fired in the first goal for Colby at 5:41 in the first.
  • Hamilton responded with 11:32 left in the period. A great defensive stop by Sophia Rodham '27 allowed Grace Puskar '27 to pick up the puck and carry it all the way from the Continentals' defensive to offensive zone. Puskar capped the move with an incredible long-range shot into the top corner that tied the score.
  • The Mules recaptured the lead with 2:29 remaining in the first. Sinson wound up with the puck right in front of the net after a great pass and she tapped it in for the 2-1 edge.
  • Colby doubled its advantage on the power play just 30 seconds into the second period. Sophia Kennedy's centering pass found Courtney Schumacher and she fired the puck into the back of the net.
  • The Continentals kept fighting and found their way back into the game with 4:23 left in the third period. The Mules failed to clear the puck as it bounced off Grace Long '27 and Carly McMahon '27 picked it up. McMahon fired a near-post shot that found the back of the net and made the score 3-2.
  • Hamilton pulled goaltender Teagan Brown '27 for a sixth skater for more than a minute late in the third, but it only produced one off-target shot.
