Women's hockey swept in weekend series at Colby, Rockwood '28 scores

Long '27 and McMahon '27 picked up their second points of the weekend for the Continentals

WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby College's Courtney Schumacher scored two goals in the third period and the Mules pulled away for a 4-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Colby's Jack Kelley Rink on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-5-1, 2-3-1 NESCAC), which received votes in the Jan. 5 USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll, is winless in five games away from home.
  • Nationally ranked No. 15 Colby (7-2-0, 3-1), which edged the Continentals 3-2 on Jan. 9, won its third game in a row.
 

How It Happened

  • After a physical, stop-and-start opening period, the Mules struck first on the power play. Molly Lefebvre scored on a rocket of a wrister on assists from Marion Legge and Kayleigh Michaud-Nolan with 3:45 left.
  • Colby outshot Hamilton early with 11 on goal in the first period compared to four for the Continentals.
  • The Mules continued to press the Continentals early in the second period when a shot by Lefebvre hit the pipe. A deflected goal by Mallory Farrell gave Colby a 2-0 lead 15:53 into the second.
  • Hamilton's Bri Rockwood '28 buried a power-play goal with 41 seconds left in the period and sliced the Mules' lead in half. Grace Long '27 and Carly McMahon '27 earned the assists.
  • Hamilton pushed for the equalizer in the third period, but took a penalty with 8:21 remaining. Colby increased its lead 72 seconds later on Schumacher's power-play goal with assists from Sophia Kennedy and Allie Corrieri.
  • Hamilton pulled goaltender Evie Sheridan '26 for a sixth skater with a little more than two minutes to go, and that allowed Schumacher to put the puck in the empty net for her eighth goal of the season with 1:24 left.
 

Notes

  • Sheridan made a season-high 28 saves in her fourth start this season.
  • Rockwood has three goals – all in the last six games.
  • Long is tied for the team lead with five assists and is second with seven points.
  • McMahon, who scored a goal in Friday's game, collected her second helper.
  • Ally Martiniello stopped 16 shots for the Mules, including seven in the second period.
  • Colby finished with a 32-17 advantage in shots on goal and won 42-of-65 faceoffs.
  • Hamilton went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Mules finished 2-for-4.
 

Next Game

The Continentals return to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 13 with a non-conference road matchup at William Smith College (7-5-0) at 3 p.m.
