BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College's Abbie Quinn scored a game-high 21 points and led the Polar Bears to a 59-50 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals inside Bowdoin's Morrell Gymnasium on Friday evening, Jan. 30.
Season Update
- Hamilton (9-10, 1-4 NESCAC) began a four-game road swing.
- Bowdoin (15-1, 5-0), which is ranked seventh in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and D3hoops.com Top 25 polls, won its eighth straight and remained unbeaten in conference play.
How It Happened
- Hamilton's Kendall Harris '27 scored seven of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter, while Grace Kinum paced the Polar Bears with seven points in the opening frame. Bowdoin shot 8-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and established a 20-12 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
- Bowdoin took its largest lead of 13 points for the first time at 20-7 following a layup by Rachel Storey with 1:34 left, but a 3-point play by Annabelle Semeter '28 followed by a turnaround jumper by Maggie Kernodle '29 trimmed the deficit to eight with under a minute remaining.
- Quinn scored 10 of her points in the second quarter on 5-of-7 shooting. Bowdoin went 0-of-6 from 3-point range while Hamilton shot 7-of-11 from the field and outscored the Polar Bears 15-14. Hamilton began the quarter on an 8-0 run with the help of back-to-back baskets by Zoe Myslewicz '28 and tied the score at 20-20 with 6:03 left.
- Quinn ended the run with a layup at the 5:46 mark, but Kernodle drained a 3-pointer from the left side with 5:28 left and gave Hamilton its first and only lead at 23-22. Bowdoin went back in front during its next possession with another layup by Quinn.
- A layup by Bowdoin's Melissa Leone with 1:47 to go capped a 6-0 spurt and pushed the Polar Bears' lead to 32-25.
- After Harris swished a long pull-up jumper with 1:22 left, Leone converted a layup during the ensuing possession and Bowdoin carried a 34-27 advantage into halftime.
- Following a layup by Erica Hills '28 in the opening minute of the third quarter, the Polar Bears used a 9-1 burst and extended their lead to 43-30 with 6:17 left.
- Taylor Lambo '26 scored on consecutive possessions with under two minutes remaining, and Kernodle swished a turnaround jumper just before the buzzer that trimmed Hamilton's deficit to 48-39 heading into the fourth.
- The Continentals cut their deficit to seven points twice in the fourth quarter, but did not get any closer.
- Harris rattled home a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 6:55 left and made it 51-44, but Quinn responded with an old-fashioned 3-point play and pushed the lead back to 10.
- A triple by Maria Belardi with 1:37 remaining improved Bowdoin's lead to 59-46. Lambo scored the final four points.
Notes
- Harris registered her third double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 18 points. She has scored in double figures in 15 games, including each of the last 12.
- Lambo added 10 points and three steals. She has also scored in double figures 15 times this season, including each of the last five games.
- Myslewicz tied her season high with 10 rebounds.
- The Continentals totaled 12 steals, their third-most in a game this season.
- Hamilton limited the Polar Bears to five free throw attempts, the second-fewest they have allowed this season.
- Belardi finished with 12 points for Bowdoin. Kinum added 11 points, a team-high seven rebounds, a game-high six assists and three steals.
- Bowdoin's Jamie Yue recorded five assists and five steals.
- Bowdoin came up with 14 steals, which helped force Hamilton into 20 turnovers. The Polar Bears scored 20 points off those turnovers.
