AMHERST, Mass. – Hamilton College's
Justin Biraben '27 and
Jackson Krock '26 tallied two points apiece and the Continentals claimed a 3-0 NESCAC win against the Amherst College Mammoths inside Amherst's Orr Rink on Friday evening, Jan. 23.
Season Update
- Nationally ranked No. 3 Hamilton (13-1-2, 9-0-1 NESCAC) registered its fifth straight conference victory.
- The Mammoths (8-6-2, 3-6-1) dropped to 4-2-1 on home ice.
How It Happened
- Hamilton forced Amherst goaltender Andrew Palena into 10 saves during the opening period. Palena stopped four consecutive Hamilton shot attempts between the 9:55 and 11:08 marks in the first. The Continentals broke the scoreless tie 12:22 into the period as Krock put away his sixth goal of the season with assists from Biraben and Lucas Constantine '27. Hamilton won the next faceoff and stayed on the offensive, with shots by Constantine, Michael Gallary '28 and Curtiss Sturgeon '29 turned away by Palena over the next two minutes.
- Hamilton's Aksel Reid '27 came up with back-to-back saves in quick succession with under five minutes left in the first.
- Hamilton continued to test Palena in the second period with 11 shots on target. Devon de Vries '27 and John Wojciechowski '28 put shots on goal in the first two minutes of the period.
- The Continentals went on power plays 3:44 and 11:05 into the second, but were unable to extend their lead.
- Amherst went on a power play 13:18 into the period, but Hamilton limited the Mammoths to one shot on target during the two minutes, and the Continentals carried their 1-0 lead into the third period.
- Hamilton held the advantage in shots on goal by a tally of 9-5 during the third. The Continentals doubled their lead 11:45 in as Luke Tchor '27 put away his team-leading 12th goal of the season with assists from de Vries and Ryan Sordillo '27.
- Wojciechowski helped kill an Amherst power play with a pair of blocked shots midway through the period.
- After a flurry of Amherst shots between the 16:02 and 17:03 marks, Biraben scored an empty-net goal with 2:49 remaining.
Notes
- Reid totaled 16 saves and recorded his second consecutive shutout, and his third on the year. He leads the conference with a 1.50 goals against average and is third with a .934 save percentage.
- Krock recorded one goal and one assist and won 14-of-20 faceoffs. He has provided at least one point in each of the last three games.
- De Vries collected his NESCAC-leading 15th assist.
- Tchor ranks first in the NESCAC in points with 25.
- Krock, Sordillo and Biraben each tallied their eighth assists of the season.
- Amherst's 16 shots on goal were the fewest allowed by Hamilton in a game this season.
