CLINTON, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals split a pair of matches against NESCAC opponents inside Hamilton's Little Squash Center on Jan. 17 and 18.
 
The Continentals dropped a 7-2 decision against Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon, but capped the weekend with a 5-4 victory over Bates College on Sunday. Hamilton was 25^th in the most recent College Squash Association varsity team rankings, while Bowdoin was 21st and Bates was 22nd.
 
Joseph Applebaum '28 and William Gianopulos '29 were perfect on the weekend at the fifth and ninth positions, respectively. Gianopulos leads the team with five wins and he and Applebaum are two of three Continentals with multiple victories against NESCAC opponents.
 
Jacob Li '29, who is the other Hamilton player with wins against more than one NESCAC team, swept his Bates opponent at the fourth position. Carlo Caffuzzi '27 also won in three games at the eighth position. Caffuzzi picked up his first victory this season after studying off campus during the fall semester.
 
Lucas Walden '28 outlasted Bates' Tommy Le in five thrilling games at the sixth position. Walden captured the first and third games before clinching the important match by an 11-6 decision in the fifth.
 
Hamilton honored Atreyus Bhavsar '26, Jamie Merrill '26, Jacob Shulman '26 and Tobey Suratt '26 with a senior recognition ceremony before the Bowdoin match.
 
The Continentals return to the courts at Middlebury College on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.
