Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Jim Taylor

No. 4 men's hockey wins third straight home game by 3-1 count over Tufts

Krock '26 and Leibl '27 had a goal and an assist apiece for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Jackson Krock '26 posted a goal and an assist and won 15-of-22 faceoffs in the Continentals' 3-1 NESCAC victory against the Tufts University Jumbos inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Jan. 16.

Season Update

  • The fourth-ranked Continentals (11-1-2, 7-0-1 NESCAC) won their third straight game and four out of five in January.
  • Tufts (5-7-1, 2-5-0) played its third consecutive ranked opponent. The Jumbos lost their fifth in a row in conference play.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton received a big lift from its special teams. After a scoreless first period, the Continentals got on the board first with a short-handed goal 8:41 into the second.
  • Noah Leibl '27 intercepted a pass and skated out of Hamilton's defensive zone. He passed ahead to Ben Zimmerman '26 just as Zimmerman was cruising into the Continentals' offensive zone. Zimmerman drove hard down the slot towards the goal with a defender draped over him and dropped off the puck for a charging Leibl, who scored on a shot from the low slot.
  • Hamilton increased its lead early in the third period. Tufts thought it had tied the score 1:46 into the third but was instead whistled for a goaltender interference penalty. Krock won the ensuing faceoff back to John Wojciechowski '28 and his wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle found its way through a maze of humanity before it settled in the back of the net at 1:49.
  • Philippe Lamarre cut the Jumbos' deficit in half with his first goal this season 7:44 into the period. Trace Norwell and Dennis Davidson had the assists.
  • Tufts nearly tied the score again with just over three minutes left when a shot by Brendan Fennell hit the inside of the right post and somehow stayed out.
  • The Jumbos pulled goaltender Gus Bylin with a little under two minutes remaining for a sixth skater, but the Continentals clinched the win with an empty-net goal. Krock won a defensive zone faceoff and Connor Thue '29 played the puck around the boards behind the goal. The puck popped out away from the boards and Leibl collected it. Leibl skated into the neutral zone and passed ahead to Krock for a wrist shot from along the boards above the right faceoff circle into an empty net with 1:12 to go.

Notes

  • Krock recorded his third multi-point game this season and has five goals and six assists.
  • Leibl registered his third tally and added an assist for his first multi-point effort since Nov. 15.
  • Wojciechowski also scored his third goal and collected a point for the third straight game.
  • Aksel Reid '27 made 11 of his 23 saves in the third period. Reid has a 1.75 goals against average and .925 save percentage in his 12th start in goal.
  • Zimmerman, playing in just his fourth game this season, picked up his first assist.
  • Justin Biraben '27 grabbed his seventh assist but his first Nov. 29.
  • Hamilton enjoyed a 34-24 shot advantage.
  • The Continentals went 1-for-3 on the power play while Tufts was 0-for-2. Hamilton has allowed just two power-play goals in 35 chances this season.
  • The Continentals have won three of the last four meetings with the Jumbos, including 3-0 in the 2025 NESCAC championship final.

Next Game

Hamilton hosts Connecticut College (6-6-1, 2-4-1) for another NESCAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. The Continentals will honor their seven seniors before the game starts.
