No. 5 men's hockey gives dominating performance in 4-1 win over Colby

Four players scored in a balanced offensive attack for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Four Hamilton College players scored a goal and the Continentals posted an impressive 4-1 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10.

Season Update

  • The fifth-ranked Continentals (10-1-2, 6-0-1 NESCAC) also edged Bowdoin College 3-2 on Jan. 9 and completed the perfect weekend.
  • Colby (7-4-2, 3-3-1) played to a 2-2 tie at Amherst College on Jan. 9.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton took a 1-0 lead with 6:17 left in the first period. Ryan Sordillo '27 took a wrist shot from above the right faceoff circle that was stopped by goaltender Cooper Rautenstrauch, but the rebound popped out to Justin Biraben '27 in the low slot and he whacked it into the net.
  • Colby Browne tied the score 5:08 into the second period on a breakaway opportunity.
  • Alex Danis '26 put the Continentals in front for good with 3:31 remaining in the period. Curtiss Sturgeon '29 flipped the puck around the boards on the left side and Danis picked it up behind the goal. He skated into the bottom of the right faceoff circle and unleashed a wrist shot that went through Rautenstrauch's five-hole.
  • Devon de Vries '27 made it 3-1 at 3:24 of the third period. The Mules turned the puck over in their defensive zone and de Vries one-timed the loose puck from the left faceoff circle into the back of the net.
  • Colby pulled Rautenstrauch for a sixth skater with 2:30 to go and Luke Tchor '27 scored on an empty net with 1:16 left. Tchor got possession of the puck down the right side, fought off a defender and swept it in from close range.

Notes

  • Aksel Reid '27 made 10 of his 22 saves in the second period. Reid has a 1.82 goals against average and .922 save percentage in 11 starts.
  • Tchor is second in the NESCAC with 10 goals and first in points with 22.
  • Devon de Vries scored his fifth goal and is second in the conference with 18 points.
