Field hockey scores first four goals, enjoys 5-1 win at RPI in opener

Higgins '26 posted her first career multi-assist game for the Continentals

TROY, N.Y. – Five Hamilton College players scored a goal in the Continentals' 5-1 non-conference rout of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers at RPI's Harkness Field on Tuesday evening, Sept. 2.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton was playing its 2025 season opener.
  • RPI, which is a member of the Liberty League, fell to 1-2.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton's Becky Felker '26 netted a goal only 89 seconds into the first quarter for an early 1-0 lead.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 made it 2-0 with 7:18 left in the first just moments after another one of her shots was stopped by Tess Garchinsky.
  • The Continentals' lead grew to 3-0 with 2:21 remaining in the second quarter when Brighton McMahon '29 scored an unassisted goal.
  • Hamilton kept their foot on the gas after halftime as Alden Duserick '27 found the back of the cage off a pass from McMahon 3:26 into the third quarter.
  • The Engineers' lone goal was scored by Sophia Brown 53 seconds later following a penalty corner.
  • Evelyn Butorac '27 closed out the scoring on a feed from Sammy Higgins '26 with 50 seconds to go in the third.
 

Notes

  • McMahon tallied a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut.
  • Hamilton finished with a 17-15 edge in shots while RPI held a 10-6 advantage in corners. The Engineers posted seven shots and six penalty corners in the fourth quarter alone.
  • Abby Griffin '26 accounted for two saves in a scoreless first half for the Continentals.
  • Hamilton's Kelly Janssen '28 turned away one shot in the second half.
  • Butorac scored her second career goal.
  • Felker knocked in her first goal since 2023.
  • The 2024 all-American Truchon notched her 16th career goal.
  • Higgins recorded her first career multi-assist game.
