Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Grace Long '27

No. 14 field hockey wins a thriller over Bowdoin in double overtime, 4-3

Nahon '27 scored the game-winner after Higgins '26 tied the score with four seconds left in regulation

CLINTON, N.Y. - Hamilton College's Isabelle Nahon '27 ended the second sudden-victory overtime period with a penalty stroke goal and lifted the Continentals to a 4-3 NESCAC win against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Season Update

  • The 14th-ranked Continentals (6-2, 2-2 NESCAC) have scored four or more goals in five of their eight games.
  • Nationally ranked No. 13 Bowdoin (5-2, 2-2) dropped its second game in a row after a perfect 5-0 start.

How It Happened

  • Nahon scored after a penalty stroke was awarded to the Continentals with 4:53 left in the second extra period. She roofed the shot top left, just off the post, and past the goalie.
  • Sammy Higgins '26 made Nahon's moment possible by scoring the tying goal with four seconds left in the fourth quarter. A Kenna White '28 pass to Lindsey Piper '27 switched fields for Hamilton at the half-field. Piper carried the ball along the right side and made a perfect cross-body pass, threading the seam to the circle. The long pass found the stick of Becky Felker '26, who got just enough of it to push it forward. Higgins ran onto the ball and beat the goalie on a bottom-left corner shot to make it 3-3.
  • Bowdoin struck first on an Emily Ferguson goal 1:44 into the first quarter.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 tied the score with 4:05 left in the first half on a corner. Higgins inserted the ball to Nahon at the top of the arch and she slid the ball on a low shot to the net. Higgins reverse flicked the ball off the right post and Truchon hit it out of the air with one hand into the back of the cage.
  • Claire Tratnyek '26 gave the Continentals a 2-1 lead with 2:01 left in the third quarter. A perfectly placed Eleanor Cooper '28 insert pass on a corner found Tratnyek at the top for a drive. Tratnyek's ball traveled the distance, redirecting off a Bowdoin defender and into the bottom-right corner.
  • Ferguson's second goal of the day tied it up again with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter. Bowdoin struck again just three minutes later and regained their lead on an Ella Davies goal after a pass from Ferguson.

Notes

  • Truchon has scored a goal in four of the last five games and is tied with Felker for the team lead with five.
  • Kelly Janssen '28 recorded two saves in the fourth quarter and kept the Continentals in it.
  • Cooper recorded her first career assist at Hamilton.
  • Felker's assist gave her a team-leading 11 points.
  • Tratnyek and Nahon scored their second goals this season. Nahon as a point in three of the last four games.
  • Higgins notched her first goal of 2025.
  • The Continentals outshot the Polar Bears 28-11. Bowdoin didn't have any shots in the second and third quarters.
  • Hamilton was awarded 12 corners to Bowdoin's 11.
  • Bowdoin's Lauren O'Donald had 10 saves.
  • The four goals were the most the Continentals ever scored in a game against the Polar Bears.

Next Game
