Three-goal night by Felker '26 leads No. 14 field hockey to 4-1 win

Continentals defeated William Smith for the sixth time in the last seven meetings

CLINTON, N.Y. - Hamilton College's Becky Felker '26 scored three goals and the Continentals sailed to a 4-1 non-conference win against the William Smith College Herons at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Wednesday evening, Sept. 24.

Season Update

  • The 14th-ranked Continentals (5-2 overall) remained undefeated in four non-conference contests.
  • William Smith (5-4) dropped to 1-3 on the road.

How It Happened

  • Felker put Hamilton on the scoreboard with 10:07 left in the first quarter. Kenna White '28 carried the ball with speed from the center line to the left post, beating three defenders. White made a beautiful pass that found the stick of Felker for a wide-open, tip-in goal.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 found the back of the cage with 46 seconds remaining in the first following a penalty corner. Eleanor Cooper '28 inserted the ball across the circle to Claire Tratnyek '26 at the top of the arch and she slid it over to Brooke Bilodeau '27. Bilodeau made a long horizontal pass across the circle to Isabelle Nahon '27, who took a strong drive that tipped off the stick of a screening Truchon and up into the left corner.
  • Felker put away her second goal of the night for a 3-0 advantage nearly six minutes into the second quarter. Alexis Glasofer '29 made a long pass to Felker on the right side, and she scored on a reverse flick shot under the goalie's left pad from about 15 feet away.
  • Felker finished the hat trick with 8:17 to go in the fourth quarter. An even longer pass ahead by Glasofer found Felker's stick for yet another reverse flick shot -- this time from the left post and through the goalie's legs.
  • The Herons spoiled the shutout bid on a Lily Gutch goal with 49 seconds left.

Notes

  • Felker's three-goal performance was the first by a Hamilton player since Keeley Duran '22 did it against Skidmore College on Oct. 6, 2021. Felker leads the Continentals with five goals and 10 points.
  • Truchon has scored a goal in three of the last four games and has four this season.
  • Glasofer recorded her first two points at Hamilton.
  • White recorded her first career point with the Continentals.
  • Nahon has both of her assists in the last three games.
  • Abby Griffin '26 and Kelly Janssen '28 recorded two saves apiece for Hamilton. Griffin, who started and played the entire first half, has a 0.29 goals against average and .923 save percentage in 210 minutes.
  • Morgan Clarke '28 recorded her first defensive save this season and the seventh of her Hamilton career.
  • The Continentals overpowered William Smith early as they held a 9-2 shot advantage and were awarded seven corners to none for the Herons in the first quarter.
  • Hamilton defended all five of William Smith's corners, all of which came in the second half.
  • The Continentals have won six of the last seven meetings with the Herons and outscored them 20-5 during that stretch.

The Continentals host No. 13 Bowdoin College (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) for a NESCAC game on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.
