MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hamilton College's
Tarun Korwar '27 and
Alejandro Fernandez '28 reached the final of their singles flight at the Middlebury College Invitational, which was held at Middlebury's Outdoor Tennis Courts on Sept. 20 and 21.
Korwar won three matches in "A" flight and has a career singles record of 43-14. He defeated Brandeis University's Muaz Malik in straight sets in the first round, lost just two games against Bates College's Eric Diop in the quarterfinals, and finished off Middlebury's Julian Wu 10-6 in a third set super-tiebreaker in the semifinals. Korwar fell to Brandeis' Daniel Shemesh in a three-set classic in the final, with a third set super-tiebreaker score of 17-15.
Fernandez received a bye into the "C" flight quarterfinals where he rallied to defeat Bates' Josh Maller in a third set super-tiebreaker, 11-9. He went on to knock out teammate
Dylan Trinh '29 in three sets in the semifinals, but fell to Middlebury's Andrew Yim in straight sets in the final.
Other singles winners included
Anson Anderson '26, who didn't drop a game against Bates' Antonio Rosabal in the "B" flight first round for his 42
nd career victory. Trinh cruised past Brandeis' David Galvez in the first round of "C" flight.
Trinh and
Akshat Dhull '29 were responsible for the Continentals' doubles victory. The duo edged Middlebury's Justin Zhou and Nathan Jackson 8-6 in the "B" flight quarters.
Hamilton competes in a three-day invitational at Swarthmore College and Haverford College beginning on Friday, Sept. 26.
