No. 18 field hockey blanked at Tufts in showdown between ranked teams

Continentals aim to return to the win column at home against William Smith on Sept. 24

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University's Eleanor Helm and Lilly Ragusa scored, and the Jumbos defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 2-0 in NESCAC action at Tufts' Ounjian Field on Saturday, Sept. 20.
 

Season Update

  • The 18th-ranked Continentals (4-2, 1-2 NESCAC) had their three-game win streak come to an end.
  • Nationally ranked No. 7 Tufts (4-2, 2-1) was coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at Babson College on Sept. 17. The Jumbos have shut out four of their six opponents.
 

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter, Helm gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead with 4:53 remaining in the first half on a shot from the left side.
  • Tufts' second goal came from Ragusa on a penalty corner with 1:56 left in the third quarter.
  • Hamilton's best scoring opportunity came on a Claire Tratnyek '26 shot on a penalty corner that was stopped by goalie Lydia Eastburn early in the second quarter. 
 

Notes

  • Tratnyek finished with three shots for the Continentals.
  • Eastburn stopped three shots and earned the shutout for the Jumbos.
  • Tufts held a 9-6 shot advantage, but Hamilton was awarded seven corners to just two for the Jumbos.
  • Abby Griffin '26 and Kelly Janssen '28 turned away two shots apiece for the Continentals. Griffin, who started in the cage, gave up her first goal in 180 minutes. She still has a 0.33 goals against average and .909 save percentage this fall.

Hamilton hosts William Smith College (5-3 overall) in non-conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
