UTICA, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals got off 31 shots against Utica University, but an own goal by the Pioneers was the difference in a local matchup at Utica's Casamento Field on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-2-1 overall) is unbeaten in its last three matches – all away from home.
- The Pioneers (3-3-1) were shut out for the second time this season.
How It Happened
- The Continentals best scoring opportunity of the first half came in the 20th minute when Maddie Ledbury '26 took a free kick from the middle where it was blocked. Daisy Sullivan '26 got the rebound and missed high of the goal.
- Isabel Harvey '28 had a great look as her header was cleared off the goal line by a Utica defender in the 41st minute.
- Diana Baffor '29 ripped a shot off a corner that was stopped by another defender for an amazing save in the 53rd minute. Seconds later Maddie Buck '27 lofted a shot that was tipped away by Utica goalkeeper Hannah Pcola.
- Hamilton took a 1-0 lead with a little under 10 minutes to go after a cross by Buck was deflected by a Utica defender and past the keeper into the net for an own goal.
Notes
- Hamilton outshot the Pioneers 11-1 in the first half and 20-0 in the second half. The Continentals enjoyed a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.
- Olivia Connolly '27 recorded one save in her first start since Oct. 5, 2024. Connolly posted her second career shutout.
- The Continentals are 20-2-1 against Utica under Head Coach Colette Gilligan.
