Ferrare '27 scores twice, leads men's soccer rally in tie at Wesleyan

Continentals trailed the Cardinals 2-0 on the road at halftime

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Hamilton College's Patrick Ferrare '27 scored twice and the Continentals rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 2-2 NESCAC tie against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Wesleyan's Jackson Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (1-1-2, 0-1-2 NESCAC) played its third straight NESCAC opponent.
  • The Cardinals (2-1-1, 0-0-1) opened their NESCAC schedule.
 

How it Happened

  • Hamilton had a good start to the second half after falling behind 2-0 in the first. A long throw-in by Bennett Hauck '26 found Brady Hyland '29 and he set up Ferrare for the Continentals' first goal in the 59th minute.
  • In the 89th minute Ferrare drew a foul inside the 18-yard box and scored on the penalty kick for a thrilling end to the match.
  • Wesleyan got off to a fast start with Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 making a diving save on Joshwin Jenning's curling effort, but Ford Cash scored on the rebound in the 10th minute.
  • The Cardinals scored again in the 36th minute as Wyatt Sprenkle smashed the ball into the bottom-right corner, making it 2-0.
 

Notes

  • Ferrare is tied for the NESCAC lead with three goals. The multi-goal game was his first at Hamilton.
  • Hauck's assist was his first collegiate point.
  • Hyland collected his first assist with the Continentals.
  • Montesano Scheibe finished with four saves, including three in the second half.
  • Neither team received a red or yellow card this game, a first for Hamilton this season.
  • Hamilton and Wesleyan finished with 14 shots apiece.
  • It's the second tie in the last four meetings between the teams.
