Softball swept by Rochester in non-conference doubleheader at home

Zorn ’26 finished with four hits for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – The University of Rochester Yellowjackets racked up 24 hits in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, April 30. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (15-11 overall) played its final home games of the season. 
  • The Yellowjackets, members of the Liberty League, have won seven of their last eight games. 

Game 1 (Rochester wins, 7-0)

 

How It Happened

  • The Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third with two runs.
  • Rochester extended its lead with a run in the fifth and pulled away with a four-run outburst in the seventh.

Notes

  • Alison Zorn '26 accounted for both of the Continentals' hits.
  • Julianna Lyons paced the Rochester offense with three hits and four RBI.
  • Riley Laygo collected two hits, including a double, and drew a walk.
  • Molly Broccolo (13-4) gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out eight over six scoreless innings.

Game 2 (Rochester wins, 14-6)

 

How It Happened

  • The Yellowjackets scored a run in the top of the first, but the Continentals quickly answered in the bottom half with two. Yael Everett '28 started with a bunt single, followed by another infield single by Emma Tansky '25. Miranda Mosqueda '28 reached on a fielder's choice, which put runners on first and second. Alexis Mayer '26 delivered a one-run double to the left field fence, and Gaby Guerra '27 brought in the second run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • Rochester took back the lead with four runs in the second, but Hamilton tied the score at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom half. Sofia Santana '26 led off with a bunt single to the pitcher and Charlie Quinn '25 followed with a single up the middle. Everett advanced both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Tansky drove in Santana with a single to right, stole second, and Quinn and Tansky scored on a dropped line drive in left field.
  • The Yellowjackets took a commanding 13-5 lead after scoring three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth. 
  • Hamilton managed a single run in the bottom of the fifth, but Rochester got it back in the sixth and secured a 14-6 victory in six innings.

Notes

  • Tansky recorded two hits and stole her 16th base of the season.
  • Guerra drove in her 10th run of the season and recorded two hits for her sixth multi-hit game.
  • Quinn and Santana finished 2-for-2. 
  • Zorn had two hits, including her fourth double of the season. 
  • Everett contributed two hits for her sixth multi-hit game. 
  • Mayer ripped her team-leading fifth double of the year. 
  • Jensen Sminchak led Rochester with four hits, scored three times and drove in two runs.
  • Bailey Nicholoff added three hits and three RBI and crossed the plate three times.
  • Rowan Mulholland batted in a team-best four runs.
  • Lyons and Maithili Shah chipped in two hits apiece.
  • Lauren Keys (3-2) gave up just one run over four innings of relief.

Next Game

Hamilton returns to NESCAC action with a neutral-site doubleheader against Bowdoin College (17-17, 4-10) at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., on Friday, May 2. The first game begins at noon.
