Men's lacrosse stuns Trinity with last-second game-winner by Healy '26

Junior attackman scored both of the Continentals' goals in the fourth quarter

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Thomas Healy '26 scored with 1.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter and lifted the Continentals to a thrilling 9-8 NESCAC win against the Trinity College Bantams at Hamilton's damp and chilly Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon, April 5.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (4-6, 2-4 NESCAC) have won three of their four home games with a one-goal setback against then-nationally ranked No. 12 Amherst College the lone blemish this season.
  • Trinity (7-4, 2-4), which received votes in the most recent U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Men's Division III Top 20 poll, lost for the second time in four days after the Bantams won their previous six games.

How It Happened

  • Trinity's Bo Page tied the score at 8-8 with 23.4 seconds remaining.
  • Reece Hickey '26 won the ensuing faceoff for Hamilton and a shot by Healy was stopped and deflected out-of-bounds by Bantams goalie Jordan Opdahl.
  • Possession was awarded to the Continentals and Jesse Delinsky '26 passed to Healy, who was set up behind the goal, with six seconds to go. Healy spun away from a defender behind the goal but was met by Opdahl and another defender as he tried to maneuver around the right side of the crease. Healy was knocked off his feet and as he fell to the turf he flipped a shot into the back of the net from a sharp angle.
  • Trinity took its only lead at 1-0 on a goal by Cam Elenteny with 12:38 left in the first quarter.
  • Will Heher '25 tied the score with 10:21 remaining in the first and had the assist on a goal by Frank Coyle '26 that made it 2-1 with 4:16 to go.
  • Miles Harvey drew the Bantams even with 12.1 seconds left.
  • Heher recorded another assist on a goal by Justin Pearl '25 with 13:43 remaining in the second quarter. Troy Pollock '25 made the score 4-2 on a shot from about 12 yards out with 7:32 to go in the second. Hamilton held a 4-3 edge at the half.
  • Carson Kraus '28 gave the Continentals a two-goal advantage with 7:15 left in the third quarter.
  • After Trinity pulled within one goal again 37 seconds later, Pearl and Maddux Little '27 provided Hamilton some cushion late in the third. Pearl stepped into a shot from long range on the left wing and scored with 5:22 remaining. Little converted from close range after a great feed from Pollock for a 7-4 lead with 2:50 to go.
  • Elenteny scored 66 seconds into the fourth quarter but Healy restored the Continentals' three-goal cushion with 11:37 left. Coyle intercepted a pass in the Bantams' defensive end and passed to Healy near the crease where he scored on a shot in traffic.
  • It seemed like Hamilton's 8-5 lead was going to hold up, but Trinity rallied late. The Bantams notched a man-up goal with 4:43 remaining and pulled within one 34 seconds later. That set the stage for the wild final minute.
