CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College erased an early deficit with seven consecutive goals in the first half and the Continentals posted a 14-10 NESCAC win against the Williams College Ephs at Hamilton's sunny but chilly Withiam Field on Wednesday, April 9.
Season Update
- The Continentals (5-6, 3-5 NESCAC) have won four of their five home games. Hamilton is tied for sixth place in the conference standings with two NESCAC contests remaining.
- Williams (4-7, 2-5) is receiving votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Men's Division III Top 20 poll.
How It Happened
- The Continentals trailed 5-1 after Ryan Nagle scored for the Ephs with 4:05 left in the first quarter.
- Troy Pollock '25 started the run 26 seconds later. Pollock took the ball near midfield, ran towards the goal from the right wing and scored on a bouncing shot.
- Jayme Wilde '25 pulled Hamilton within two goals with 2:22 remaining in the first. The long-stick midfielder picked up a loose ball near midfield after an errant pass, drove down the center of the field and fired the ball into the back of the net from more than 15 yards out.
- Ryan Olivo '28 scored twice in the opening two minutes of the second quarter and tied the score. On the first goal Olivo cut towards the crease and scored from close range on a great pass by Thomas Healy '26 from behind the goal. Olivo made it 5-5 after he took a pass near the Continentals' bench and unleashed a shot from straight away about 15 yards from the goal.
- Healy put Hamilton in the lead to stay with 11:48 to go in the second. Frank Coyle '26 found Healy unmarked about 15 feet from the goal and he scored on a quick shot.
- Neither team scored for the next eight minutes until Olivo struck again with 3:50 left. He took a short pass from Pollock and found himself wide open in the middle, so Olivo took a couple steps forward and scored from about 10 yards out.
- Healy gave the Continentals a three-goal advantage with 2:37 remaining. He collected a loose ball on the right side of the goal, drove towards the goal and guided a shot inside the right post from close range. Hamilton led 8-5 at the half.
- Williams cut its deficit to two goals on three occasions in the second half, but never got over the hump.
- The Continentals were up 9-6 after three quarters and 11-9 after a man-up goal by the Ephs' Harrison Cross with 10:06 to go in the fourth.
- Hamilton's Carson Kraus '28 notched a goal with 5:16 left and Pollock sealed the victory with 2:33 remaining on his unassisted goal that made the score 13-9.
